CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Volvo S60
overall

Summary
With 277 currently listed for sale and an average price of $8,868, 35.0% of 2015 Volvo S60 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Volvo S60 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
64.6% of 2015 Volvo S60 listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Volvo S60 stands out by being different in a crowded premium-sedan field. It has to fend off upstarts and contend with the class leaders, and that distinctiveness is part of its appeal. Rather than feeling stale, the S60 is presented as a model Volvo has kept up to date, which helps it remain relevant among shoppers looking for something with a more individual character.
For 2015.5, the Volvo S60 gets a fresh look, and brand-new Drive-E engines bring new life to the range. That combination gives the car a stronger sense of freshness than its long run might suggest. Owners also tend to value the S60 for its safety features, fuel economy, and driving comfort, along with the luxury feel that many associate with Volvo. Some buyers do note maintenance concerns, especially around engine reliability in earlier models, so it is a car that can appeal strongly on character and efficiency while still inviting careful consideration of long-term ownership.

We used to own a 2014 Volvo S60 with 128,000 miles. We owned it for 6 months and installed a new timing belt at 125,000 miles only to have the serpentine belt break and wrap around the timing belt causing it to break and total the engine. Our newer 2015 FWD model is now a 4 cylinder and the maintenance schedule says change it at 150,000 miles, or 30,000 more then with the 5 cylinder. Really like the car and the better Fuel economy is a positive thing, but does seem odd not to have an oil dip stick in the car, however after reading the manual, it is pretty easy to check electronically. I think it should be an excellent car and hopefully is more like the 1990 Volvo 240 GL we had for 20 years but more modern and efficient.

| Year-Round Low | $8,872 |
| Year-Round High | $10,016 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $9,886 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.26% |

Is the 2015 Volvo S60 a good car?
Generally — the 2015 Volvo S60 earns a 4/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its safety features, fuel economy, and driving comfort, and they also like the luxury feel and reliability. The S60’s appeal is strongest if you want a premium sedan with a distinctive character rather than a generic luxury badge.
With 35.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s enough market value to make this a worthwhile model to shop carefully.
Is the 2015 Volvo S60 reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to reliability and a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, while also noting that the car is valued for long-term confidence. The expert evaluation also describes the reliability watchdogs as rating the S60 range above average, and says most of the bugs have likely been worked out because Volvo has been building this version for a while.
The new powertrains are the main uncertainty for used buyers, so a careful inspection and service-history review matter more than usual.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Volvo S60?
At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then focus your inspection on bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair. It also makes sense to prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or incomplete maintenance records. Pay close attention to how the car drives, because condition and upkeep matter more than mileage alone on a premium sedan like this.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The S60 range includes the T5 Drive-E FWD, T5 AWD, T6 Drive-E FWD, and T6 R-Design AWD, with Premier and Platinum equipment packages adding more features. The base setup is the starting point, while higher trims bring more equipment, and the R-Design adds exterior enhancements, a Sport chassis, and interior upgrades.
- Powertrain: The new Drive-E 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder powers the front-wheel-drive models, while proven 5- and 6-cylinder engines continue in all-wheel-drive versions. The T5 FWD is smooth, refined, and quiet, and the T6 models bring more power if you want stronger acceleration.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes City Safety and Dynamic Stability and Traction Control, while available driver-assistance tech includes Blind-Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert, Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake, and Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection. Some of this equipment is available rather than standard, so trim choice matters.
- Infotainment: The standard Sensus Connect system uses a 7-inch screen, and it includes app support, Volvo On Call with a WiFi hotspot, and smartphone integration through Bluetooth. Navigation is available, and the system is designed to handle entertainment, communication, and vehicle settings.
- Fuel efficiency: The new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is rated at 25 mpg city/37 highway, and the more powerful T6 R-Design AWD is rated at 19/28.
Which 2015 Volvo S60 trim should I buy?
The 2015 Volvo S60 is offered in 4 trim levels: T5 Drive-E FWD, T5 AWD, T6 Drive-E FWD, and T6 R-Design AWD.
Here's the short version:
- T5 Drive-E FWD: This is the best-value starting point if you want the freshest powertrain, strong fuel economy, and the smoothest everyday driving experience. It gives you the new Drive-E engine and the updated 8-speed automatic without pushing the price into the upper end of the range.
- T5 AWD: Choose this if you want all-wheel drive and the security of the proven 5-cylinder setup. It makes sense if traction matters more to you than maximum efficiency.
- T6 Drive-E FWD: This is the step up if you want noticeably more power from the new turbo-and-supercharged engine. It suits you if you like the updated drivetrain but want stronger performance than the T5.
- T6 R-Design AWD: Pick this if you want the most performance-oriented version, with the strongest output, a Sport chassis, and the most aggressive appearance and interior upgrades. It is the right choice if you value driving character over value.
Premier and Platinum packages add more equipment, and the safety-tech options can vary by configuration.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Volvo S60?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop, compare, and wait for the right listing.
- Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 279 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.26% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 65.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $8,872, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Volvo S60's resale value?
The current average of $8,872 sits slightly below last year's $9,886.
That price movement suggests the model has softened enough to help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, condition and maintenance history will matter a lot, because well-kept examples should stand out more clearly in a value-conscious segment. The S60’s distinctive character can help it attract shoppers, but it is still important to buy at the right price.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Volvo S60 safe?
The 2015 Volvo S60 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes City Safety and Dynamic Stability and Traction Control, and the available driver-assistance suite adds Blind-Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert, Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake, and Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection. That gives you a strong mix of active safety tech, though some of the more advanced features are not standard on every trim.
Should I buy a 2015 Volvo S60 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.26% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2015.5 update brings a fresh look and new Drive-E engines.
Consider the 2014 if:
- At $8,151, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $8,872 average.
- It offers style, performance, and comfort with top-notch safety front and center.
The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of this generation with updated engines and strong value, the 2015 is the better primary choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2014 is the more budget-friendly path, especially if you find a well-kept example with good service history.
