CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Toyota Prius
overall

Summary
With 670 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,453.00, 29.4% of 2015 Toyota Priuses for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Toyota Prius 4.7 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2015 Toyota Prius stands out by blending utility, comfort, and fuel economy in a way few cars can match. It is also described as looking better once you have passed it and can see it in your rear-view mirror, which captures how distinctive its styling can be from behind. Even though this version of the car is starting to get old, it remains one of the best modes of transportation for handling the drudgery of daily living, especially when the savings at the gas pump matter most.
Owners of the 2015 Toyota Prius also praise its excellent fuel economy, spacious interior, and comfort. The ride is often described as smooth, and Toyota’s reliability is another point in its favor. On the downside, some drivers are frustrated by the audio system and the bulky center console design, so the Prius’s strengths are balanced by a few everyday annoyances.

I have had SUV’s , a high performance BMW, a Lexus Hybrid, but still I find myself 100% satisfied with my 2015 Prius. 2nd one, as I traded it in for my Lexus CT200h. What I really like aside from Toyota reliability, is how smooth and chill my ride is. Unassuming, as I cruise through the streets Los Angeles, never drawing attention, saving on gas, at a point in my life I do not to be flashy and choose calm.

Overall a reliable car. We currently have a 2010 with 213k that has continued to serve us well despite aging. The only nightmare with this car is the bluetooth and audio system. It does not work, it connects for 30 seconds then disconnect or keep saying loading. If this is one of the features you are looking for, do not buy this car, it will drive you insane trying to figure it out. Im surprised that a company like Toyota that makes reliable cars would put out such a sub-par product.

How much does the 2015 Toyota Prius cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,576 |
| Year-Round Low | $11,398.67 |
| Year-Round High | $12,574.28 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,756 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +6.98% |
Prices are up 6.98% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 654 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of shopping room. If you find a listing below $11,398.67, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2015 Toyota Prius a good car?
Yes — the 2015 Toyota Prius earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its excellent fuel economy, spacious interior, and comfort, and they also like the smooth ride. In use, that makes it a strong fit if you want a practical daily driver that keeps fuel costs low and still feels easy to live with. The market also shows 27.2% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2015 Toyota Prius reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to Toyota's reliability, along with the Prius’s excellent fuel economy, spacious interior, and comfort. The expert drive notes also emphasize impressive reliability and dependability ratings, and Toyota includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles of ownership.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that condition and maintenance history matter more than the badge alone, especially as these cars age.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Toyota Prius?
At 51.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car is priced near the low end of the market. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim level you want. Because the Prius can be bought in a wide range of configurations, it’s worth checking that the features you expect are actually present.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The trim ladder ranges from Two to Five, and the lower trims are more basic, while higher trims add more technology and convenience features.
- Powertrain: The Prius uses a 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder engine with an electric drive motor, a CVT, and front-wheel drive. It can run on electricity alone at low speeds for short distances, and it is tuned for efficiency rather than quick acceleration.
- Safety package: The available Advanced Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning and braking. Safety Connect is restricted to the Four and Five trims, and blind-spot warning is not offered.
- Infotainment: Higher trims add navigation, Entune App Suite, expanded Smart Key functionality, a heads-up display, premium audio, and advanced voice recognition. The system also includes Touch Tracer Display technology.
Which 2015 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?
The 2015 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: Two, Three, Four, and Five.
Here's the short version:
- Two: This is the simplest way into the Prius lineup, so it makes sense if you mainly want the hybrid basics and the lowest entry point.
- Three: This trim adds navigation, Entune App Suite technology, and expanded Smart Key functionality, making it a stronger value if you want more everyday convenience.
- Four: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it opens the door to more upscale tech, including the available Deluxe Solar Roof Package with a heads-up display, premium audio, upgraded navigation, and Toyota’s Safety Connect service.
- Five: This is the most feature-rich version, with exclusive LED headlights and access to the Advanced Technology Package, so it suits you if you want the most equipment and the most advanced driver-assistance content.
Safety Connect is limited to the Four and Five trims, and the Advanced Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning and braking.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Toyota Prius?
Act selectively, because this is still a seller’s market even though there are some good opportunities if you shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 654 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 6.98% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 51.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,398.67, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Toyota Prius's resale value?
The current average of $12,576 sits slightly above last year's $11,756.
That upward move suggests the market has been willing to pay more for this model year than it did a year ago. For a future seller, that can be encouraging because stronger current pricing usually supports a healthier exit point if your car is in good condition. The Prius also benefits from steady buyer interest tied to its fuel economy and practicality, which helps keep demand from falling away too quickly.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Toyota Prius safe?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives it an overall rating of four-star ratings, while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the Prius a Top Safety Pick commendation.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota’s Safety Connect technology is limited to the Four and Five trims, and it includes automatic collision notification and emergency assistance services. The available Advanced Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning and braking. A notable gap is that blind-spot warning is not offered.

- 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 51.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 6.98% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It remains one of the best modes of transportation for handling daily driving while maximizing fuel savings.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $15,182, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $12,576 average.
- It enters its fourth generation with a freshened approach and a push to “shatter expectations.”
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2015 is the smarter buy because it combines strong owner satisfaction, solid efficiency, and a lower average price. If you can stretch for the 2016, you may prefer the newer-generation redesign, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2015 and shop for a clean example with a solid history.
