CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Toyota Prius
overall

Summary
With 670 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,453.00, 29.4% of 2015 Toyota Priuses for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Toyota Prius 4.7 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2015 Toyota Prius stands out by blending utility, comfort, and fuel economy in a way few cars can match. It is also described as looking better once you have passed it and can see it in your rear-view mirror, which captures how distinctive its styling can be from behind. Even though this version of the car is starting to get old, it remains one of the best modes of transportation for handling the drudgery of daily living, especially when the savings at the gas pump matter most.
Owners of the 2015 Toyota Prius also praise its excellent fuel economy, spacious interior, and comfort. The ride is often described as smooth, and Toyota’s reliability is another point in its favor. On the downside, some drivers are frustrated by the audio system and the bulky center console design, so the Prius’s strengths are balanced by a few everyday annoyances.

I have had SUV’s , a high performance BMW, a Lexus Hybrid, but still I find myself 100% satisfied with my 2015 Prius. 2nd one, as I traded it in for my Lexus CT200h. What I really like aside from Toyota reliability, is how smooth and chill my ride is. Unassuming, as I cruise through the streets Los Angeles, never drawing attention, saving on gas, at a point in my life I do not to be flashy and choose calm.

Overall a reliable car. We currently have a 2010 with 213k that has continued to serve us well despite aging. The only nightmare with this car is the bluetooth and audio system. It does not work, it connects for 30 seconds then disconnect or keep saying loading. If this is one of the features you are looking for, do not buy this car, it will drive you insane trying to figure it out. Im surprised that a company like Toyota that makes reliable cars would put out such a sub-par product.

See more price trendsHow much does the 2015 Toyota Prius cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,421 |
| Year-Round Low | $11,366.10 |
| Year-Round High | $12,421.97 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,920 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +4.21% |
Prices are up 4.21% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 654 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of shopping room. If you find a listing below $11,366.10, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2015 Toyota Prius a good car?
Yes — the 2015 Toyota Prius earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its excellent fuel economy, spacious interior, comfort, and smooth ride. The overview also frames it as especially useful for handling daily driving, with savings at the gas pump as a major advantage. Even with its age, it remains a practical choice if you want efficiency and everyday usability, and 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Is the 2015 Toyota Prius reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner summary points to Toyota's reliability, and the expert cost-effectiveness notes add strong reliability and dependability ratings, along with very low ownership costs.
The expert driving notes also reinforce that this is a car built around efficiency and predictable operation rather than drama. Toyota includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical complexity and more about finding a well-kept example that has been maintained consistently.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Toyota Prius?
At 51.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a prior collision. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the car's equipment and safety features match the trim you're considering. Because this model year can vary meaningfully by trim, it's worth confirming exactly what is and isn't included before you buy.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The trim ladder ranges from Two to Five, and lower trims miss some of the convenience and technology upgrades found higher up. Safety Connect is restricted to the Four and Five models, so base versions leave out that connected-safety feature.
- Powertrain: The Prius uses a 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder hybrid setup with a continuously variable automatic transmission and 134 hp. It can run on electric power at low speeds, and the fuel economy emphasis is the main reason to buy it.
- Safety package: The Advanced Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning and braking. Blind-spot warning is not offered.
- Infotainment: Higher trims add navigation, Entune App Suite, and expanded Smart Key functionality. The Five also gets a heads-up display, premium audio, upgraded navigation, and advanced voice recognition.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert test drive returned 41.3 mpg, while the official estimates are 51 mpg city/48 highway/50 combined.
Which 2015 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?
The 2015 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: Two, Three, Four, and Five.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The Two is the most stripped-down choice, so you give up the navigation, expanded Smart Key, and connected-safety features found higher in the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The Four is the best balance if you want more convenience and safety tech without jumping all the way to the top. It can add a heads-up display, premium audio, upgraded navigation, and Safety Connect.
- Premium/top trim: The Five is the most feature-rich choice, with standard LED headlights and access to the Advanced Technology Package. It is the best pick if you want the most tech and driver-assistance content.
- Off-road trim: This model is not aimed at off-road use, so there is no real daily-driver reason to chase a more specialized setup.
Safety Connect is limited to the Four and Five trims, so if that feature matters to you, avoid the lower trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Toyota Prius?
The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.
- Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 654 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 4.21% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 51.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,366.10, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Toyota Prius's resale value?
The current average of $12,421 sits slightly above last year's $11,920.
That upward move suggests the market still values this Prius's efficiency and practicality, even as the model ages. For a future seller, that means well-kept examples should continue to attract interest from buyers who prioritize fuel savings and low running costs. Condition and history will matter a lot, though, because shoppers in this segment tend to be selective.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Toyota Prius safe?
The 2015 Prius earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick commendation from IIHS.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota's Safety Connect system includes automatic collision notification and emergency assistance, but it is limited to the Four and Five trims. The Advanced Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning and braking. A blind-spot warning system is not offered, which is a notable gap for shoppers who want broader driver assistance coverage.
Should I buy a 2015 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 51.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Prices are up 4.21% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It remains a highly practical hybrid with strong fuel economy, comfort, and everyday usability.
Consider the 2016 if:
