CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Subaru Legacy
overall

Summary
With 500 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,660, 28.0% of 2015 Subaru Legacies for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Subaru Legacy 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
59.8% of 2015 Legacy models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Subaru Legacy stands out as a redesigned sedan that is bigger, better looking, and more generously appointed than before. Its styling is described as vanilla-flavored, but the tradeoff is a larger interior and nicer accommodations, which make it feel more substantial and more comfortable for everyday use. That combination gives the car a more mainstream appeal while still keeping the Legacy’s practical character intact.
At the same time, the 2015 Legacy is presented as a car that may have lost a little of the enthusiast edge that once defined it. The test-drive summary suggests that something has been lost in the translation, even as the car’s overall package improves. Owner feedback reinforces the Legacy’s strengths in safety, reliability, and performance in various weather conditions, along with smooth power delivery and a strong sound system. A few drivers did note that acceleration can feel lacking compared with other cars, so the Legacy’s appeal is strongest for buyers who value comfort, confidence, and all-around usability over outright speed.

This was our 3rd legacy. Wonderful car! Great in inclement weather. The legacy kept us safe and unharmed in an accident. Would recommend to anyone wanting a safe, reliable car with some nice features at a fair price.

Reviewed a 2015 Subaru 2.5i AWD on Oct 2, 2014
I just purchased the 2015 Legacy 2.5i with black cloth interior, winter package and a dealer package. The reviews say it looks plain but I love its classic looks. I test drove the 2015 impreza (sucks), seen the sti and wrx (ugly) and decided on the legacy which is much roomier, quiet, and better looking. Theres more power and better mileage than the 2013-2014 model too! Not to mention decreased cabin noise. after 2,000 miles im still loving it.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior body damage or repair work. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s safety and convenience features are functioning as expected. Because this model is often chosen for comfort and all-weather confidence, you’ll want to make sure the example you’re considering still feels solid, quiet, and well cared for.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base 2.5i models include a full suite of power accessories, a rear-view camera, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, smartphone integration, and 17-inch steel wheels with plastic wheel covers, while Premium adds aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and voice-command capability. Limited trims add 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, heated rear seats, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, while the 3.6R Limited brings a more powerful 6-cylinder engine and Xenon headlamps.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 175 hp, a Lineartronic CVT, and standard all-wheel drive with Active Torque Split and Active Torque Vectoring. The review emphasizes smooth, stable driving more than quick acceleration, and it notes EPA combined fuel economy of 30 mpg for this powertrain.
- Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight system includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited models and optional on Premium models.
- Infotainment: The Starlink system uses a 7-inch color touchscreen and includes Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming, HD Radio, satellite radio, and smartphone-linked apps. It also supports navigation, and the interface is described as responsive and easy to use.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter powertrain is rated at 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.
Which 2015 Subaru Legacy trim should I buy?
The 2015 Subaru Legacy is offered in 4 trim levels: Base 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited, 3.6R Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base 2.5i: This is the value play if you want the essentials, including a rear-view camera, Bluetooth, smartphone integration, and standard all-wheel drive, but you can tell it’s the least expensive version from the steel wheels and plastic covers.
- 2.5i Premium: This is the trim that adds the most everyday comfort for the money, with heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and voice-command features.
- 2.5i Limited: This is the best-value trim if you want the most complete mix of comfort and safety, because it adds leather, heated rear seats, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and the Harman Kardon audio system.
- 3.6R Limited: Choose this one if you want the stronger 6-cylinder engine and the extra equipment that comes with the top gas-powered trim.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited models and optional on Premium models.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Subaru Legacy?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 497 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,084, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Subaru Legacy's resale value?
The current average of $10,659 sits slightly above last year's $10,637.
That small increase suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is usually a good sign if you plan to resell later. A steady price pattern can help you estimate future value more confidently, especially if you buy at or below the current average. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones because shoppers in this segment tend to reward condition and ownership history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Subaru Legacy safe?
The 2015 Subaru Legacy earns Top Safety Pick recognition from the IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Subaru’s EyeSight suite includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on Limited models and optional on Premium models. The review also highlights Subaru’s ring-shaped reinforcement frame as part of the car’s crash-protection strategy. One caveat is that the NHTSA had not yet tested this model year at the time of the review.
Should I buy a 2015 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2015 brings a bigger cabin, nicer accommodations, and standard all-wheel drive.
Consider the 2014 if:
- At $8,975, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $10,659 average.
- It emphasizes practicality, comfort, safety, and value in a way that may suit budget-focused shoppers.
The bottom line: If you want the more refined, better-equipped Legacy with a stable market and strong owner satisfaction, the 2015 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2014 is the smarter value alternative and still delivers the Legacy’s core strengths.
