CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Jeep Wrangler
overall

Summary
With 4,827 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,566, 29.6% of 2015 Jeep Wranglers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Jeep Wrangler 4.47 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.5 / 10.
63.8% of 2015 Wrangler models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Jeep Wrangler stands out for staying true to its rugged identity while still adding a few welcome updates. It is described as continuing the tradition of being extremely capable off road, and the model also gets an upgraded sound system along with a fresh set of editions to choose from. That combination gives it some added appeal without changing the basic formula that makes a Wrangler distinctive.
What makes the 2015 Jeep Wrangler especially appealing is its uncompromising off-road character at the higher end, where Rubicon editions are highlighted for performance off road. Owner feedback reinforces that image, with praise for the vehicle’s ruggedness, off-road capability, and the fun of driving it. The same feedback also points to the Wrangler’s removable tops and doors and its unique look as part of its charm.
There are tradeoffs, though. Owners noted concerns about rear seat safety, rust issues, and smaller cargo space compared with larger models. Some also mentioned that the ride can feel stiff and that fuel economy can suffer with larger tires, which is worth keeping in mind for buyers drawn to the Wrangler’s capability and personality.

Im very happy with my purchase! I wanted a rubicon, more for the offroad abilities it has,and found this unlimited rubicon, which has way more creature comforts than i was looking for,and now very happy with! Its really more of an offroad vehicle to be honest. Its a little stiff, and the off road tires humm as you go down the road! And with bigger tires gets truck like fuel milage! With that said,im happy i bought it,its fun to drive, and allows me to play offroad and then drive to work everyday!! Its a win in my book anyday!

| Year-Round High | $17,846 |

Is the 2015 Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Generally — 4.47/5 from owners and 6.5/10 from our experts, the 2015 Jeep Wrangler is a strong fit if you want a vehicle built around rugged capability rather than everyday polish. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.
Owners consistently praise its ruggedness, off-road capability, and the fun of driving it. They also highlight the removable tops and doors, the unique look, and the spacious interior as part of its appeal. In use-case terms, this is the kind of SUV that makes sense if you value character, trail ability, and open-air driving more than comfort-first commuting.
Good and great deals account for 30.2% of listings, so you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2015 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.47/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people trust for rugged use, with praise for its dependable feel, off-road capability, and fun ownership experience. The expert test drive notes that the 3.6-liter V6 is markedly better than previous powerplants, with more comfortable acceleration and cruising than older models. It also notes that the Wrangler’s new-ish V6 and fresh editions help give shoppers pause before jumping to older secondhand examples.
If you buy used, the bigger long-term risk is less about basic appeal and more about how hard the vehicle has been used and modified.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Jeep Wrangler?
At 64% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body condition, underbody wear, and signs of rust or prior repair. Because owners also mention rear seat safety concerns, stiffness, and smaller cargo space, it helps to focus on how the specific example has been maintained and whether its condition matches your expectations for a Wrangler.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport is the simplest starting point, while the Sahara adds more creature comforts and the Rubicon trims bring the most off-road hardware. The Sport S adds 17-inch wheels and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, while the Willys Wheeler trims add exterior accents, a Dana 30 front axle, a 3.73 axle ratio, and a limited-slip differential. The Sahara-based X adds Rubicon-style exterior accents, and the Rubicon Hard Rock adds the most aggressive off-road look and equipment.
- Powertrain: All models use a 3.6-liter V6 with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed manual is standard, and a 5-speed automatic is available. The engine is described as better than previous powerplants, with more comfortable acceleration and cruising, and EPA fuel economy is listed at 17 mpg city and 21 highway.
- Safety package: The Wrangler includes standard antilock disc brakes on all four wheels, electronic stability control, and traction control. Frontal-collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning indicators are not available, and supplemental front airbags are a $495 option.
- Infotainment: This year brings an upgraded sound system and an available 9-speaker Alpine audio system. Navigation, heated seats, and leather are also available.
- Fuel efficiency: The Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited manage 17 mpg city and 21 highway, according to the EPA.
Which 2015 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2015 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Sahara, and Rubicon.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the entry point, so it makes the most sense if you want the Wrangler’s core capability without paying for extra comfort or off-road hardware you may not need.
- Sahara: This is the best-value trim if you want a more comfortable daily experience, since it adds more creature comforts and larger 18-inch wheels.
- Rubicon: Choose this if you want the most serious off-road setup, including heavy-duty skid plates, a heavy-duty transfer case, disconnecting sway bars, and Dana 44 axles front and rear.
The safety content also notes that supplemental front airbags are a $495 option, so check the equipment list carefully on any used example.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Jeep Wrangler?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right example.
- Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,813 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.14% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 64.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,550, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $16,570 sits slightly below last year's $17,845.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the Wrangler still has recognizable demand, but pricing is being shaped by broader market softness rather than scarcity alone. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and avoid heavy wear, you should be better positioned when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.47/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Jeep Wrangler safe?
The Wrangler received a Moderate rating in small-overlap front collisions and head restraints and seats, a Poor rating in side collisions, and a Good rating in moderate-overlap front collisions from the IIHS. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the Wrangler only three-star ratings in a rollover crash.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
The Wrangler’s safety equipment is limited by its age and boxy architecture. Frontal-collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning indicators aren’t available, and supplemental front airbags are a $495 option. Standard antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, and traction control are included.
Should I buy a 2015 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 64% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.14% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.47/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2015 adds an upgraded sound system and fresh editions, while Rubicon trims emphasize uncompromising off-road performance.
Consider the 2014 if:
- At $15,603, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $16,570 average.
- It is a rugged, affordable icon focused on off-road ability and adventure.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $17,528, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $16,570 average.
- It adds a convertible top, year-round 4WD, and uniquely rugged standard equipment.
The bottom line: If you want the Wrangler’s classic formula with a softer price than last year, the 2015 is the sensible middle ground. If your priority is saving money, the 2014 is the value play; if you want the next model year’s broader appeal and can spend more, the 2016 is the alternative to compare.
