The main ownership risk for used buyers is cost: you should expect premium-brand maintenance and repair exposure, so service history matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 BMW X5?

At 58% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-option examples where repairs can get expensive. Focus on condition, service records, and whether the equipment you want was actually included on the specific vehicle you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The X5 lineup includes five trims, with the base rear-wheel-drive sDrive35i standing apart from the all-wheel-drive versions. Higher trims add more luxury equipment, and the most heavily optioned examples can become very expensive.
• Powertrain: The X5 is offered with multiple engines, including a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline six with 300 hp and a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 445 hp. The six-cylinder is the preferred balance of performance and efficiency.
• Safety package: The Active Driving Assistant can bring forward collision alert with automatic braking for cars and pedestrians, plus lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and a backup camera are available, but not standard.
• Infotainment: The cabin centers on a 10.2-inch LCD screen with a searchable digital owner’s manual, and the system can show live traffic, browse the Internet, and display vehicle information.
• Fuel efficiency: The six-cylinder version returned 24 mpg in testing, while the V8 returned 17 mpg.

Which 2015 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2015 BMW X5 is offered in 5 trim levels: sDrive35i, xDrive35i, xDrive35d, xDrive50i, and X5 M.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive35i: This is the least expensive path into the X5, and it makes sense if you want the core luxury-SUV experience without paying for all-wheel drive. It is the only rear-wheel-drive version, so it suits you best if you value price over all-weather traction.
• xDrive35i: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive while keeping the X5’s strongest everyday balance of performance, comfort, and efficiency. If you want the most broadly appealing version, start here.
• xDrive35d: Choose this if you want diesel efficiency and long-distance cruising ability. It is the right fit if you prioritize fuel economy and torque over outright speed.
• xDrive50i: This is the choice for you if you want the strongest straight-line performance and the most powerful mainstream X5 experience. It is the most expensive mainstream trim and best suited to buyers who care most about acceleration.
• X5 M: This is the performance flagship, aimed at buyers who want the most extreme version of the X5. It is the trim to consider if you want maximum performance and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package includes Active Driving Assistant on equipped models, while blind-spot monitoring and a backup camera are available rather than standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 BMW X5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,037 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.22% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,337, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $12,337 sits slightly below last year's $13,742.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you’re a future seller, condition and documentation will matter more because the broader price trend is already working against appreciation.

Well-kept examples with strong equipment and clean history should hold up better than neglected ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Should I buy a 2015 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

Choose the 2015 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2015 X5 combines sharp handling with a premium cabin and strong available technology.

• It delivers a strong performance-first identity with standout straight-line speed.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping target, the 2015 is the stronger pick because it combines a lower current average price with solid owner satisfaction and broad market availability. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2014 is the better value play.
