CarGurus Analysis: 2015 BMW 5 Series

Summary
With 940 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,169, 31.6% of 2015 BMW 5 Series models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 BMW 5 Series 4.43 / 5 stars.
59.7% of 2015 BMW 5 Series models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 BMW 5 Series stands out as a midsize luxury sedan that still puts driving character ahead of pure comfort. BMW’s own buying guide describes the 5 Series as a function-over-form sports sedan that is taut and austere in appearance but very satisfying to drive and luxurious without being opulent. For this generation, the regular 5 Series had evolved into a comfortable luxury sedan with a little bit of verve, and reviewers noted that it remained more engaging than many staid competitors even as it became less sharp than older 5 Series models.
For 2015 specifically, the 5 Series carried over with no major changes. The lineup included the 528i, 535i, and 550i, and BMW also offered the 535d diesel sedan. The 528i used a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 240 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, while the 535i used a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six with 300 horsepower and an equal amount of torque. The 550i brought a 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 with 443 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, and the 535d delivered 225 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. BMW also offered xDrive all-wheel drive on the lineup, along with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 2015 model also benefited from the generation’s broad technology and safety content. BMW offered features such as Parking Assist, a 10.2-inch screen running iDrive 6, and available active safety equipment including adaptive cruise control, surround view cameras, and a head-up display, though many of those systems cost extra. At the same time, the car’s complexity and maintenance demands were part of the tradeoff, and the generation’s reliability record was not especially strong. That mix of strong performance, upscale equipment, and higher ownership costs is a big part of what defines the 2015 BMW 5 Series.

How much does the 2015 BMW 5 Series cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $11,164 |
| Year-Round Low | $11,164 |
| Year-Round High | $11,978 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,975 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.77% |
Prices have softened 6.77% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 934 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2015 BMW 5 Series a good car?
Generally — the 4.43/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners most often praise the entertaining ride quality, robust power, and luxurious interior, and many also like the performance and features across different driving modes. The 2015 BMW 5 Series fits best if you want a midsize luxury sedan that still emphasizes driving character ahead of pure comfort. With 31.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2015 BMW 5 Series reliable?
Owners rate it 4.43/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience for many drivers, with praise centered on strong performance and a luxurious cabin that holds up well in daily use. At the same time, some owners mention issues such as shaking and smoke during startup, which is a reminder that used examples can vary widely in condition. For long-term ownership, you should expect maintenance discipline to matter a lot more than it would on a simpler sedan.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 BMW 5 Series?
At 59.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a mechanic who knows luxury sedans. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, startup behavior, and overall mechanical condition, since the car’s complexity can make hidden issues more expensive to sort out later.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 BMW 5 Series?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 934 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.77% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 59.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,164, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 BMW 5 Series's resale value?
The current average of $11,164 sits slightly below last year's $11,975.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means you should be realistic about appreciation potential and plan on value being driven more by condition, mileage, and maintenance history than by market momentum alone. Well-kept examples should still attract interest, but the broader trend favors buyers more than sellers right now.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.43/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2015 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.77% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.43/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2015 is the right pick if you want the current-year balance of price, owner satisfaction, and available inventory, especially if you can verify a clean history and strong maintenance records. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing for a lower entry cost, but the 2015 remains a sensible target when you find a well-kept example at the right price.
