What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Volvo S60?

At 68% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, safety equipment, and maintenance records. Because some owners mention mechanical issues and pricey repairs, condition and service history matter more than mileage alone. If you are considering a higher-trim car, make sure the added equipment is working properly and that any safety tech is fully functional.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base T5 FWD includes LED daytime running lights, dual-zone climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, Bluetooth connectivity, rain-sensing wipers, 17-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch display screen, and a 6-month satellite radio subscription. It can be supplemented with optional safety technologies, heated front and rear seats, and wood trim, while the Premier, Premier Plus, and Platinum trims add more comfort and convenience features.
• Powertrain: The T5 uses a turbocharged 2.5-liter 5-cylinder with 250 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque, while T6 variants use a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder with 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. The R-Design version is retuned to 325 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, and the engines run on regular-grade gasoline.
• Safety package: The Blind Spot Information System Package includes a blind-spot monitor, cross-traffic alert, lane-change merge aid, and parking sensors. Other available safety tech includes intelligent cruise control, forward-collision warning, full auto brake, pedestrian and cyclist detection, and road-sign information.
• Infotainment: The S60 uses a 7-inch display screen that is not a touchscreen, and the controls are handled through buttons and a dial. The system does not mention wireless CarPlay or Android Auto, and no over-the-air capability is described.
• Fuel efficiency: The T5 is rated at 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, while the 3.0-liter engine is rated at 18 mpg around town and 25 mpg on the freeway. The expert tester recorded 23.8 mpg in the R-Design.

Which 2014 Volvo S60 trim should I buy?

The 2014 Volvo S60 is offered in 8 trim levels: T5 FWD, T5 FWD Premier, T5 FWD Premier Plus, T5 FWD Platinum, T6 AWD, T6 AWD Premier Plus, T6 AWD Platinum, T6 AWD R-Design, and T6 AWD R-Design Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• T5 FWD: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core S60 experience with the most accessible price. It makes sense if you want the car’s safety, comfort, and style without paying for extra luxury features.
• T5 FWD Premier: This adds a push-button ignition, moonroof, leather upholstery, and power adjustment for the front passenger. It is a sensible step up if you want a more premium feel without jumping too far in price.
• T5 FWD Premier Plus: This trim adds a universal garage door opener and a rear-view camera. It is the best-value choice if you want a stronger convenience and safety mix.
• T5 FWD Platinum: This version adds navigation, a 650-watt premium Surround Sound audio system, and auto-dimming exterior mirrors. Choose it if you want the most comfort and tech in the front-wheel-drive lineup.
• T6 AWD: This trim brings the stronger 3.0-liter engine, standard AWD, sport seats, 18-inch alloys, driver-selectable steering modes, paddle shifters, and a dynamic chassis. It suits you if performance matters more than value.
• T6 AWD Premier Plus: This adds more convenience on top of the T6 AWD formula, while keeping the stronger powertrain and chassis upgrades.
• T6 AWD Platinum: This is the more fully equipped T6 choice if you want the stronger engine plus the richer feature set.
• T6 AWD R-Design: This is the enthusiast pick, with unique front and rear styling cues, performance-tuned underpinnings, exclusive upholstery and interior details, HID headlights, and the retuned 325-hp engine.
• T6 AWD R-Design Platinum: This is the most loaded version, adding the R-Design’s performance character with the highest level of equipment.

The safety package is a worthwhile add-on if you want blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, lane-change merge aid, and parking sensors.

• Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 269 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.41% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.0% of listings are accident-free.

What is the 2014 Volvo S60's resale value?

The current average of $8,042 sits slightly below last year's $8,780.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help you if you buy at the right number. For a future seller, the current trend means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level. Well-kept examples with strong service records should be easier to move than cars with accident history or deferred maintenance.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Volvo S60 safe?

The 2014 Volvo S60 earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests and a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety suite includes a strong passenger compartment, multiple airbags, ABS, intelligent cruise control, forward-collision warning, full auto brake, pedestrian and cyclist detection, road-sign information, and the Blind Spot Information System Package. That package adds a blind-spot monitor, cross-traffic alert, lane-change merge aid, and parking sensors. The main caveat is that some of these features are optional rather than standard, so you should verify equipment on any used listing you consider.

Should I buy a 2014 Volvo S60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its strong safety reputation and engaging R-Design character.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,898, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $8,042 average.
• It gets a fresh look and brand-new Drive-E engines.

The bottom line: If you want the lower entry price and strong safety reputation, the 2014 is the better value play. If you are willing to spend more for a fresher feel and newer powertrains, the 2015 is the better alternative for you.
