What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Tundra?

At 54% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has towing or work-site miles. Pay close attention to body condition, signs of prior repairs, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SR is the work-truck choice with a dark plastic grille, front bumper, and basic steel wheels, while the SR5 adds chrome accents, fog lights, 18-inch wheels, and a 7-inch touchscreen. Limited and Platinum bring more upscale exterior and interior touches, including leather heated seats, navigation, a power sliding rear window, LED daytime running lights, a sunroof, and premium audio.
• Powertrain: The base SR comes with a 270-hp 4.0-liter V6 and a 5-speed automatic, while the SR5 adds a 4.6-liter V8 with a 6-speed automatic. Limited and Platinum use the 5.7-liter V8 with 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, and rear-wheel drive or available 4WD.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a backup camera, front and side impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and trailer sway control. Optional equipment includes proximity parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Higher trims feature Toyota’s Entune system, including apps for weather, traffic, Pandora streaming, BING web searches, and OpenTable reservations. It is described as easy to use and comprehensive.
• Fuel efficiency: The 5.7-liter V8 is rated at 13 mpg city and 17 highway, with an estimated 15 mpg combined. The V6 rear-wheel-drive version gets 16 mpg city and 20 highway, while the 4.6-liter V8 rear-wheel-drive version gets 15 city and 19 highway.

Which 2014 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?

The 2014 Toyota Tundra is offered in 4 trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the work-truck trim, and it makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and can live with the most basic exterior treatment and equipment.
• SR5: This is the best-value trim because it adds chrome accents, fog lights, 18-inch wheels, and the 7-inch touchscreen without jumping all the way to the luxury-focused trims.
• Limited: Choose this if you want a more upscale truck, since it adds leather heated seats, navigation, a power sliding rear window, and larger chrome wheels.
• Platinum: This is the top-end choice if you want the most equipment, including LED daytime running lights, a power sunroof, unique stitched interior trim, and JBL premium audio.

The safety package includes a standard backup camera, with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert available on higher-spec versions.

Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.64% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out as a tough, high-tech full-size truck that fits weekend and work-site use well.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $23,568, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $22,747 average.
• TRD Pro trim adds special suspension, detailing, and paint for a more distinctive look.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because it combines strong owner satisfaction, solid expert praise, and a lower average price. If you are willing to spend more for a more distinctive setup, the 2015 is the better path for shoppers drawn to its TRD Pro character.
