Reviewed a 2014 Toyota Sienna on May 21, 2022
This minivan checks in most of the features a family can look for, it is roomy, has the most second row seats in class, huge cargo space even with the 3rd row seat up, the engine has enough power to haul the whole family, cargo and even tow 3500 lbs, it looks good outside, and the engine and transmission are pretty reliable mainly because of it’s timing chain design, pretty much bulletproof with adequate maintenance, the only drawbacks are it’s 2nd row seats not being stowaway ones, you will have to remove them to make more space if needed but that’s if you need a ton of space for cargo, they are also heavy and not that easy to remove. The other drawback is the interior front console materials, too much plastic which also looks cheap but surprisingly it takes the use and abuse a family can throw at it. The 2018 and up models have better materials but again, it’s matter of looks. I rather pick the Sienna over the Odyssey because of the Honda’s timing belt engine design, you have to do a major work every 75k miles which is gonna set you some $1500 back, not the Sienna, the Odyssey has a visually better front console, seats and overal interior craftsmanship, looks fancier but ultimately I believe the Sienna will go the distance with more authority, also remember the Sienna has more horse power and that’s also a plus when driving a heavy vehicle full of family people and cargo, thats why I rather chose the Sienna. There are other options like the Dodge Grand Caravan which has stowaway 2nd row seats, and a beefy engine but reliability is not on par with Toyota off course about $5k less on price, also consider the Kia Sedona, great alternative, very spacious and great design, this one and the Sienna have available ottoman 2nd row seats, rear entertainment system. All models getting better with the new technology.

If you find a listing below $12,493.19, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — it earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.
The 2014 Sienna stands out as a family-focused minivan with strong utility, a comfortable second row, and a V6 that makes everyday driving and highway merging easy. Its all-wheel-drive availability also gives you extra versatility if you need it.
The market shows 26.8% good or great deals, so you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Sienna’s overall package points toward solid dependability: it’s built around a proven V6 powertrain, and the expert review describes reliability expectations as better than average. It also includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles of ownership, which helps reduce early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the van was maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by heavy family use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Sienna?
At 52.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van has been used for frequent family hauling or long commutes. Pay close attention to brake condition, interior wear, and any signs that the vehicle has seen hard use. If you’re shopping a higher-trim example, make sure the added equipment actually works as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Sienna L is the most stripped-down version, while the LE adds power sliding side doors, upgraded exterior trim, privacy glass, and more convenience features. Higher trims add more comfort and luxury, but the base model leaves out a lot of the family-friendly equipment that makes the Sienna appealing.
- Powertrain: Every version uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 266 hp and a 6-speed automatic. The engine is described as responsive and strong enough for merging and passing, and all-wheel drive is available if you want extra traction.
- Safety package: Higher trims can include Blind-Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Safety Connect with Automatic Collision Notification, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and a Pre-Collision System. Some of that equipment is reserved for more expensive versions, so check carefully if safety tech matters to you.
- Infotainment: The system uses a dated-looking screen, but it keeps physical knobs and buttons. Bluetooth can be fussy, and the available setup includes satellite radio, a USB port, and navigation on better-equipped versions.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA estimate is 21 mpg in combined driving, and the review’s real-world result was 19.3 mpg. That’s respectable for a minivan, but it’s worth factoring into your ownership budget.
Which 2014 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Sienna is offered in 4 trim levels: L, LE, SE, XLE.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The L is the most basic choice, and the review points you toward the LE if you want the equipment that makes the Sienna feel more family-friendly. The base version leaves out the convenience and comfort upgrades that matter in daily use.
- Sweet-spot trim: The LE is the best value pick because it adds power sliding side doors, privacy glass, upgraded seating, triple-zone climate control, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and a reversing camera.
- Premium/top trim: The XLE is the better upscale choice if you want leather upholstery, heated front seats, a sunroof, and more premium cabin touches.
- Off-road trim: The SE is the sporty choice, but it’s not the best fit if you want the plushest ride or the most family-oriented setup.
Safety Connect and Blind-Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert are reserved for the most expensive versions, so check trim carefully if those features matter to you.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Sienna?
The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.
- Deal availability: 26.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 915 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.28% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 52.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,493.19, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $13,276 sits slightly below last year's $13,448.
That mild decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level rather than just model-year desirability. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Sienna safe?
Except for a 3-star crash protection rating for the front-seat passenger in a frontal-impact crash, as assigned by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2014 Sienna boasts impressive crash-test ratings.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The available safety tech is strong on higher trims, with features including a panoramic reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, automatic high-beam headlights, Safety Connect with Automatic Collision Notification, Blind-Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and a Pre-Collision System. The main caveat is that Toyota reserves much of this equipment for the pricier versions, and the review also notes the lack of a Lane-Departure Warning system.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 26.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 52.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.28% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 offers strong utility, a comfortable second row, and available all-wheel drive.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $14,921, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $13,276 average.
- It brings improved handling and upgraded safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2014 is the smarter buy because it’s cheaper and still delivers the core Sienna strengths. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer version with meaningful upgrades, the 2015 is the better path for safety and refinement.
