Overall the experience of driving the vehicle is fantastic. The higher seating above a sedan car makes this a pleasant ride in any weather enabling the driver to see far ahead when driving in heavy traffic. It has enough air bags to float a tank.

Our Limited AWD is a very solid car that we expect to drive for a long time. Very comfortable seats. The space is easily configured for people or cargo. Love the shelf under the dash!

Overall... excellent vehicle. Front row and 2nd row seats adjust to accommodate most drivers/riders. I did alot of shopping around before I made my purchase and what I found is that the Highlander is really the best value for the money. The interior is very nice... not cheap looking as compared to some other mid-size SUVs which were actually more expensive.

The car feels solid, that’s what I was looking for. The downside is that the seats are uncomfortable and the mirrors don’t fold in.

See more price trendsHow much does the 2014 Toyota Highlander cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,922 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,922.47 |
| Year-Round High | $16,234.11 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,180 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −1.60% |
Prices have softened 1.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,201 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $14,922.47, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Toyota Highlander a good car?
Yes — 4.78/5 owners rate it, and the expert score is 8.67/10. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and value for money. The spacious interior and useful features also come up often, which fits a family-focused crossover that’s meant to handle daily driving and weekend trips. With its roomy cabin and flexible seating, it makes sense if you want a practical SUV that still feels a bit more polished than the average family hauler.
The market also looks supportive, with 32.1% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2014 Toyota Highlander reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels reliable, dependable, and worth counting on over time. The expert review also emphasizes that it delivers a lot of content for the price and feels like a more expensive SUV than a typical crossover, which supports the case for solid day-to-day ownership. Toyota also notes that the Highlander delivers an amazing amount of content for the price, reinforcing the sense of long-term value.
For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the model’s overall reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by family-duty use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Highlander?
At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from ones with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin, seating, and electronics, since family use can leave visible wear even when the drivetrain is in good shape. It also makes sense to focus on how the vehicle drives and whether the features you care about still work as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LE includes standard seating for 8, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, a backup camera, Bluetooth hands-free calling, and plenty of storage, while the LE Plus adds three-zone climate control with rear climate toggles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and SofTex leatherette seating. The XLE adds navigation, leather seating, and a detailed color digital display, and the Limited adds 19-inch wheels, a JBL audio system, and upgraded safety tech like blind-spot monitoring.
- Powertrain: The base LE uses a 185-hp 2.7-liter inline 4-cylinder, but the 3.5-liter V6 is optional on the LE and standard on the LE Plus and above. The V6 makes 270 hp and pairs with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is listed at 19 mpg city/25 highway for front-wheel-drive V6 trims, while I4 front-wheel-drive trims return 20/25.
- Safety package: The Highlander comes standard with a backup camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and a full array of advanced front and side impact airbags. With the available pre-collision system, it earns a 2014 Top Safety Pick Plus award. Available driver-assistance features include lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: Entune is the multimedia touchscreen interface, and it includes apps such as Pandora streaming radio, Yelp, and Bing. The touchscreen is 6.1 inches on the base trim, and navigation-equipped vehicles access that function through the app page rather than a dedicated dash button.
- Fuel efficiency: The V6 FWD trims are rated at 19 mpg city and 25 highway. The I4 FWD trims are rated at 20 mpg city and 25 highway. An AWD V6 test trim was listed at 18 mpg city and 24 highway.
Which 2014 Toyota Highlander trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Highlander is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, LE Plus, XLE, Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LE gives you the essentials, but it lacks the upgraded comfort and convenience features found higher up the range, including three-zone climate control, leather seating, navigation, and the more advanced safety tech available on the Limited.
- Sweet-spot trim: The LE Plus is the best value if you want a noticeable step up from the base model, because it adds three-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and SofTex leatherette seating without jumping all the way to the pricier trims.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the most fully equipped choice, with 19-inch wheels, a JBL audio system, and upgraded safety tech like blind-spot monitoring.
- Off-road trim: The AWD setup adds more capability than a typical crossover system, including power distribution front to rear, brake-based side-to-side modulation, Downhill Assist Control, and a center-locking differential. That makes it more versatile than many rivals, but most daily drivers will still be better served by the more comfort-focused trims.
The available pre-collision system is the key safety-package note to keep in mind, since the Top Safety Pick Plus award depends on that equipment.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Highlander?

If you find a listing below $14,922.47, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Highlander's resale value?
The current average of $15,922 sits slightly below last year's $16,180.
That kind of softening suggests the market has become a little more favorable for buyers, which can make it harder for sellers to command top dollar right away. If you own one, pricing it competitively matters, especially because shoppers can compare against a fairly large pool of listings. On the other hand, the model’s strong reputation for value and practicality should help keep demand steady.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Highlander safe?
The 2014 Toyota Highlander earns a Top Safety Pick Plus award from IIHS when equipped with the available pre-collision system.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The Highlander comes standard with a backup camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and a full array of advanced front and side impact airbags. Available safety tech includes a pre-collision system, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The key caveat is that the Top Safety Pick Plus recognition depends on the available pre-collision system, so you should confirm that the vehicle you’re considering has the right equipment.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Prices have softened 1.60% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 Highlander stands out for its Top Safety Pick Plus recognition and its broad mix of family-friendly space, power, and safety tech.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest blend of value, safety, and family usefulness, the 2014 is a solid year to target. If your priority is simply finding the lowest price, you can also compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example rather than the newest badge.
