Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Corolla stands out as a compact sedan that prioritizes efficient, dependable daily driving over flash. Its 132-horsepower engine may not sound especially strong, but the tuning of the engine and the CVT’s mapping are described as working well to make the most of the fuel-sipping four-cylinder. That combination gives the Corolla a clear identity: it is built to deliver affordable, compact motoring with an emphasis on fuel efficiency and long-term usefulness.
This model year also marks the start of the Corolla’s eleventh generation, which helps explain why it feels like a fresh take on a familiar formula. The car is presented as a practical choice for the daily grind, with the kind of reliability and efficiency that make it appealing as a commuter and as a vehicle that can be handed down after years of service. At the same time, the tradeoff is straightforward: it is not the prettiest car in the segment, and the modest power output means buyers looking for stronger performance will need to look elsewhere.

Nice vehicle. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars is the touch screen stereo is broken. That’s about the only thing I didnt test during the test drive.

This car is an excellent value! The only downside to the car is that it had over 90000 miles on it; however, Toyotas have the reputation if cared/maintained for properly they keep going to way over 200000 miles!

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Corolla?
At 46.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had any prior damage. Focus on overall condition, signs of uneven wear, and whether the car still feels tight and well cared for in everyday use. Because this model is valued for long-term usefulness, a clean maintenance record matters as much as the sticker price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base L includes LED headlights, Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB auxiliary port, while higher trims add hands-free voice controls and Entune. The S trim also brings a unique front fascia, rear lip spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and sport bucket seats.
- Powertrain: The Corolla uses a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder engine. Most trims make 132 hp, while the LE Eco increases output to 140 hp and is tuned for efficiency. A 6-speed manual is available on the base L and S, and the CVT is standard on most trims.
- Safety package: Toyota’s Star Safety System is standard and includes vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, brake assist, and Smart Stop technology. All trims also get 8 standard airbags, front and rear crumple zones, an energy-absorbing steering column, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
- Infotainment: All trims include Bluetooth and a USB auxiliary port, and the Corolla is available with Entune. The system also offers HD radio with live-radio pause capability.
- Fuel efficiency: The 6-speed manual achieves 28 mpg city/37 highway. The base L with the 4-speed automatic gets 27/36, while the L, LE, and S with the CVT return 29/38. The LE Eco gets 30/42 with base steel wheels, or 40 mpg highway with 16-inch aluminum wheels.
Which 2014 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Corolla is offered in 4 trim levels: L, LE, LE Eco, S.
Here's the short version:
- L: This is the entry point, but it still gives you LED headlights, Bluetooth, and a USB auxiliary port. If you want the lowest starting price and can live without extra convenience features, this is the trim to target.
- LE: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more everyday comfort and convenience without pushing you into the more specialized Eco or sport-oriented S. It keeps the Corolla’s practical mission intact while broadening its appeal.
- LE Eco: This trim is aimed at efficiency, with 140 hp, low-rolling-resistance tires, and revised throttle mapping. It makes sense if fuel economy is your top priority, but the content suggests the real-world payoff may not justify the extra cost for everyone.
- S: This is the style-and-feel trim, with a sportier appearance, sport seats, paddle shifters, and a manual mode for the CVT. Choose it if you want the Corolla’s practical core with a little more personality.
All trims come with Toyota’s Star Safety System, so you do not need to move up the lineup to get the core safety suite.

What is the 2014 Toyota Corolla's resale value?
The current average of $11,228 sits slightly above last year's $11,036.
That upward move suggests the Corolla is holding value reasonably well for a compact sedan in this segment. If you buy one in good condition, you may benefit from the model’s reputation for efficiency and low ownership costs when it comes time to sell.
The price range also shows that buyers are still willing to pay for clean examples, especially when the car has a strong maintenance history. For a future seller, that means condition and documentation should matter a lot more than mileage alone.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 46.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.74% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 marks the start of the Corolla’s eleventh generation, giving you a fresh take on the model’s familiar formula.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $12,016, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $11,228 average.
- It adds a bit more style and a slightly more enjoyable everyday-driving feel.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2014 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a practical ownership profile. If you can stretch your budget and want a slightly more polished-feeling Corolla, the 2015 is worth a look, but price-sensitive buyers should stay focused on the 2014.
