Summary
With 1,406 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,176, 28.6% of 2014 Toyota Corollas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Toyota Corolla 4.3 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Corolla stands out as a compact sedan that prioritizes efficient, dependable daily driving over flash. Its 132-horsepower engine may not sound especially strong, but the tuning of the engine and the CVT’s mapping are described as working well to make the most of the fuel-sipping four-cylinder. That combination gives the Corolla a clear identity: it is built to deliver affordable, compact motoring with an emphasis on fuel efficiency and long-term usefulness.
This model year also marks the start of the Corolla’s eleventh generation, which helps explain why it feels like a fresh take on a familiar formula. The car is presented as a practical choice for the daily grind, with the kind of reliability and efficiency that make it appealing as a commuter and as a vehicle that can be handed down after years of service. At the same time, the tradeoff is straightforward: it is not the prettiest car in the segment, and the modest power output means buyers looking for stronger performance will need to look elsewhere.

Nice vehicle. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars is the touch screen stereo is broken. That’s about the only thing I didnt test during the test drive.

This car is an excellent value! The only downside to the car is that it had over 90000 miles on it; however, Toyotas have the reputation if cared/maintained for properly they keep going to way over 200000 miles!

Is the 2014 Toyota Corolla a good car?
Generally — the 4.3/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert score is 8/10. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its excellent fuel efficiency, reliability, and low maintenance costs. The Corolla also comes through as a strong value for commuting and long drives, which fits its practical, daily-driver focus. The overview frames it as affordable compact motoring with an emphasis on fuel efficiency and long-term usefulness, so it makes the most sense if you want a sensible commuter rather than a flashy sedan.
Only 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is somewhat selective even if the car itself is broadly appealing.
Is the 2014 Toyota Corolla reliable?
Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback repeatedly points to reliability, low maintenance costs, and a car that feels like a good value over time. The expert evaluation also describes it as a tremendously reliable addition to your garage and emphasizes fuel-efficient daily motoring built for long-term usefulness. That combination suggests the Corolla is the kind of used car you can count on for routine commuting if you buy a well-kept example.
If you’re shopping used, the main ownership risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained consistently.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Corolla?
At 47% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car still feels tight and well cared for on a test drive. Because this model is valued for long-term usefulness, a clean, well-maintained example matters more than chasing the lowest sticker price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base L is the most stripped-down version, while the S adds a unique front fascia, rear lip spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and sport bucket seats.
- Powertrain: The Corolla uses a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, with 132 hp in all trims except the LE Eco, which makes 140 hp. A 6-speed manual is available in the base L and S, while the CVT is standard on most trims.
- Safety package: Toyota’s Star Safety System includes vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, brake assist, and Smart Stop technology. All trims also get 8 standard airbags.
- Infotainment: All trims include Bluetooth connectivity and a USB auxiliary port, and the Corolla is available with Entune, HD radio, and live-radio pause capability.
- Fuel efficiency: The 6-speed manual returns 28 mpg city/37 highway, the base L with the 4-speed automatic gets 27/36, and CVT-equipped L, LE, and S models get 29/38. The LE Eco gets 30/42 with base steel wheels.
Which 2014 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Corolla is offered in 4 trim levels: L, LE, LE Eco, S.
Here's the short version:
- L: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Corolla’s core strengths without much extra equipment. It’s the trim to consider if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable with a simpler setup.
- LE: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds a more well-rounded everyday setup while staying close to the heart of the lineup.
- LE Eco: This trim is aimed at efficiency, but the content suggests the real-world payoff is limited, so it makes sense only if you’re specifically chasing the efficiency-focused setup.
- S: This is the most distinctive trim, with sport-oriented styling and a few extra features that make it the choice if you want the Corolla with the most personality.
All trims come with Toyota’s Star Safety System, so the safety baseline is strong across the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Corolla?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and compare listings.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,378 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.91% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 47.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,763, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Corolla's resale value?
The current average of $11,159 sits slightly above last year's $10,950.
That upward move suggests the Corolla has held value reasonably well for a compact sedan in this price range. If you buy one in good condition, you can reasonably expect steady demand from shoppers who want a practical commuter with a strong reputation. The relatively modest year-over-year increase also suggests the market is stable rather than overheated, which is helpful if you plan to resell later.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Corolla safe?
The Corolla earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota’s Star Safety System is standard, and it includes vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, brake assist, and Smart Stop technology. The Corolla also comes with 8 standard airbags, front and rear crumple zones, an energy-absorbing steering column, and a tire pressure monitoring system. That gives you a strong safety foundation across the lineup.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 47% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.91% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 marks the start of the Corolla’s eleventh generation, giving it a fresher take on the familiar formula.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $11,899, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $11,159 average.
- It adds a bit more style and a slightly more enjoyable everyday-driving feel.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and a practical, efficient character. If you’re willing to spend more for a slightly newer model with a bit more style, the 2015 is the better secondary path.
