Summary
With 130 currently listed for sale near Los Angeles, CA and an average price of $11,450.00, 33.1% of 2014 Toyota Corollas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.

Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Corolla stands out as a compact sedan that prioritizes efficient, dependable daily transportation over flash. Its 132-horsepower engine may not sound especially strong, but the engine tuning and CVT mapping are described as working well to make the most of the fuel-sipping 4-cylinder. That combination gives the Corolla a clear identity: it is built to deliver affordable, compact motoring with an emphasis on fuel economy and everyday usefulness.
It is also notable as the start of the Corolla’s eleventh generation, which helps explain why it feels like a fresh take on a familiar formula. The car is presented as a practical choice for the daily grind, with enough capability to carry a driver and occasionally other passengers for years of routine use. At the same time, the source acknowledges its limitations: it is not the prettiest in the segment, and the modest power output means buyers looking for strong acceleration will need to look elsewhere.

Nice vehicle. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars is the touch screen stereo is broken. That’s about the only thing I didnt test during the test drive.

This car is an excellent value! The only downside to the car is that it had over 90000 miles on it; however, Toyotas have the reputation if cared/maintained for properly they keep going to way over 200000 miles!

Drivers consistently praise its fuel efficiency, reliability, and low maintenance costs, and many also see it as a strong value for commuting and long drives. The Corolla’s practical setup fits the overview’s focus on efficient, dependable daily transportation, especially if you want a compact sedan that prioritizes usefulness over flash. The market also shows 29.5% of listings as good or great deals, which supports its appeal if you’re shopping carefully.
Is the 2014 Toyota Corolla reliable?
Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert evaluation also describes it as a tremendously reliable addition to your garage and a smart buy, with the Corolla’s reputation framed as near-bulletproof. The cost-effectiveness commentary reinforces that reputation by calling it a car whose resale value should remain strong if Toyota’s long-term durability holds up.
For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about mechanical drama and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by years of daily use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Corolla?
At 46.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car still feels tight and well cared for on a test drive. Because this model is often bought for commuting, you’ll want to pay close attention to wear items that reflect heavy daily use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base L is the most stripped-down version, while the S adds a unique front fascia, rear lip spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and sport bucket seats. If you want the best value, the S stands out for adding more personality and equipment without changing the Corolla’s core mission.
- Powertrain: The Corolla uses a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder, with 132 hp in all trims except the LE Eco, which is tuned for efficiency and makes 140 hp. A 6-speed manual is available on the base L and S, while the CVT is standard on most trims and is tuned to make the most of the engine’s fuel-sipping character.
- Safety package: Toyota’s Star Safety System is standard and includes vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, brake assist, and Smart Stop technology. The Corolla also comes with 8 standard airbags, crumple zones, an energy-absorbing steering column, and tire pressure monitoring.
- Infotainment: All trims include LED headlights, Bluetooth, and a USB auxiliary port. Higher trims add hands-free voice controls, and Entune brings app-based infotainment features such as Pandora, Bing, and Yelp.
- Fuel efficiency: The manual gets 28 mpg city/37 highway, the base L with the 4-speed automatic gets 27/36, and CVT-equipped L, LE, and S models return 29/38. The LE Eco is rated at 30/42 with base steel wheels, or 40 mpg highway with 16-inch aluminum wheels.
Which 2014 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Corolla is offered in 4 trim levels: L, LE, LE Eco, S.
Here's the short version:
- L: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price and the Corolla’s core efficiency and safety features without paying for extras. It makes sense if you mainly want basic, dependable transportation and are comfortable with a simpler setup.
- LE: This is the most balanced choice for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale feel while staying close to the Corolla’s practical mission. If you want a sensible daily driver with a little more comfort and convenience, this is the trim to target first.
- LE Eco: This trim is aimed at efficiency-minded buyers, but the source warns that the extra cost does not translate into enough real-world fuel-economy benefit. It is best only if maximizing efficiency is your top priority.
- S: This is the most distinctive trim, with sportier styling, a rear lip spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel, sport bucket seats, and CVT sport/manual modes. It suits you best if you want the Corolla to feel a little more engaging without leaving the compact-sedan comfort zone.
Toyota’s Star Safety System is standard across the lineup.

What is the 2014 Toyota Corolla's resale value?
The current average of $11,317 sits slightly above last year's $11,164.
That modest increase suggests the Corolla is holding value rather than softening, which is a good sign if you plan to sell later. The combination of steady demand, practical positioning, and strong owner satisfaction helps support pricing over time. Because this model is viewed as dependable daily transportation, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than less established compact sedans.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota’s Star Safety System is standard and includes vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, brake assist, and Smart Stop technology. The Corolla also comes with 8 standard airbags, front and rear crumple zones, an energy-absorbing steering column, and tire pressure monitoring. That said, the safety package is strong across the lineup rather than trim-dependent, so you do not need to move up the range to get the core protection features.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 46.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.38% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 marks the start of the Corolla’s eleventh generation, giving it a fresher take on the familiar formula.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $11,988, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $11,317 average.
- It aims to make everyday driving feel a little more engaging while staying practical.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2014 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and a healthy supply of listings. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly more engaging take on the same practical formula, the 2015 is the alternative to compare.
