Is the 2014 Subaru Impreza a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Subaru Impreza earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The Impreza’s appeal is rooted in its affordable, versatile mission and standard all-wheel drive, which gives you traction-focused confidence in everyday use. It is less polished than some rivals, though, with limited refinement and technology standing out as weaker points.

29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2014 Subaru Impreza reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Impreza’s value case is helped by its practical design and standard all-wheel drive, and the expert review also points to solid dependability expectations. Its 2.0-liter boxer engine and CVT setup prioritize efficiency over excitement, and the review notes that the transmission can feel less sophisticated than many rivals.

The cost-effectiveness notes also point to a solid recommendation from Consumer Reports, which supports the idea that ownership can be reassuring if you want a practical commuter. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that below-average reliability and mediocre initial quality predictions could mean more upkeep than you’d prefer.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Subaru Impreza?

At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Focus on overall condition, because the market includes enough accident history that you’ll want to separate clean examples from cars that may have been repaired after a collision.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2.0i sedan is the most basic and affordable version, with 15-inch steel wheels, Bluetooth, heated front seats, USB and auxiliary inputs, power windows, and air conditioning. The 2.0i Premium adds 16-inch alloys, upgraded audio, cruise control, chrome accents, and a rear stabilizer bar. The 2.0i Limited adds HD radio, a 4.3-inch center display screen, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, fog lights, and a rear-view camera. The 5-door-only 2.0i Sport Premium and 2.0i Sport Limited mirror their non-sport counterparts but add 17-inch alloy wheels, special interior fabric, and distinct rocker panels.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder Boxer engine with 148 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. A 5-speed manual is standard on most trims, while Limited models use a CVT with paddle shifters. The CVT is the efficiency play, with EPA estimates of 27 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.
• Safety package: The Impreza includes 7 standard airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, and crash-optimized construction. A rear-view camera is available, but blind-spot monitors and lane-departure warning are not part of the equipment list.
• Infotainment: Bluetooth is standard, but the optional navigation system in Premium and Limited trims is the route to Aha smartphone integration, satellite radio, iTunes tagging, text-messaging assistance, and touchscreen controls. The screen size is 4.3 inches on the Limited trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT is rated at 27 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.

Which 2014 Subaru Impreza trim should I buy?

The 2014 Subaru Impreza is offered in 5 trim levels: 2.0i sedan, 2.0i Premium, 2.0i Limited, 2.0i Sport Premium, 2.0i Sport Limited.

Here's the short version:

• 2.0i sedan: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into standard all-wheel drive, heated front seats, Bluetooth, and the core Impreza formula. It makes the most sense if you want the simplest, most affordable version and do not need the extra comfort or tech features.
• 2.0i Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds 16-inch alloys, upgraded audio, cruise control, chrome accents, and a rear stabilizer bar without jumping all the way to the pricier Limited equipment. It is the trim to target if you want a better everyday experience without overpaying for extras you may not use.
• 2.0i Limited: Choose this if you want the most comfort and convenience features, including leather upholstery, automatic climate control, fog lights, HD radio, a 4.3-inch center display screen, and a rear-view camera. It also brings the CVT on Limited models, which suits buyers prioritizing ease and efficiency.
• 2.0i Sport Premium: This is the 5-door choice if you want the hatchback body style with sport-specific styling touches and the same equipment logic as the Premium trim. It is a good fit if cargo flexibility matters more than sedan styling.
• 2.0i Sport Limited: Pick this if you want the most fully equipped 5-door version, with the same comfort and tech upgrades as the Limited plus the hatchback’s added practicality. It is the right choice if you want the most content in the most versatile body style.

Should I buy a 2014 Subaru Impreza or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.38% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Subaru’s formula here is affordable, versatile, efficient all-wheel drive with a practical everyday mission.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $10,188, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $9,058 average.
• It adds better interior amenities and a quieter cabin.

The bottom line: If you want the lower purchase price and standard all-wheel drive, the 2014 is the value play. If you can spend more for a nicer cabin and improved tech, the 2015 is the better all-around choice.

How does the 2014 Subaru Impreza compare to the 2014 Honda Civic?
