58.8% of 2014 E-Class models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out as a midsize luxury sedan that blends prestige, comfort, and capability. It has long been an aspirational symbol of personal success, and it remains the most popular midsize luxury sedan in America. Even so, its appeal is not just about the badge: it is described as a safe, comfortable, and dynamically capable machine built with premium materials and equipped with industry-leading technology.
What makes the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class especially distinctive is the way it rewards more spirited driving. In test driving, it showed that the faster it goes, the more dynamic its performance becomes, even without the optional sport suspension. That gives it a polished, Germanic character that should appeal to buyers who want a luxury sedan with real composure and a sense of athleticism.
At the same time, it is not without tradeoffs. Its value equation weakens if the Mercedes-Benz emblem is removed, and its styling is described as somewhat bland. Owner feedback also points to a soft ride and noticeable body lean, which may leave drivers wanting a sportier feel. Still, for buyers prioritizing comfort, quality, and a well-rounded luxury experience, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class remains an appealing choice.

| Year-Round High | $13,586.82 |

If you find a listing below $12,508.71, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.78/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 6.17/10. The standout strength is Performance at 8/10.
Owners consistently praise the luxury features, strong performance, stylish design, handling, acceleration, and interior quality. The overview also frames it as a midsize luxury sedan that fits buyers who want prestige, comfort, capability, and a more dynamic driving feel than you might expect from a comfort-first luxury car.
The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 30.5% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback and expert commentary both point to a car that feels dependable and trouble-free enough to inspire confidence over time, with reliability expected to be better than average. The expert review also notes that you do not need to worry about fixing it all the time, which reinforces the sense that it can be a solid long-term ownership choice.
If you buy used, the main risk is less about day-to-day dependability and more about how well the car was maintained and whether expensive luxury-car repairs were deferred.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
At 58% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or a long option list. Pay close attention to signs of wear in the cabin, suspension behavior, brake feel, and any quirks in the electronics or driver-assistance systems. Because this is a luxury sedan with a lot of available equipment, condition matters as much as mileage.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The standard E-Class Sedan lineup includes the E250 BlueTec, E350, E400 Hybrid, E550 4Matic, E63 AMG 4Matic, and E63 AMG S 4Matic. The less expensive versions can feel sparse because items such as leather seats, heated front seats, split-folding rear seats, Keyless Go passive entry with push-button start, navigation, a premium sound system, and a reversing camera were optional rather than standard. The Sport Styling Package adds a sport grille, split-spoke wheels, a subtle body kit, and a sport-tuned suspension, while the AMG versions bring more standard equipment and exclusive upgrades.
- Powertrain: The E350 uses a 3.5-liter V6 with a 7-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, making 302 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. It also includes automatic stop/start and Eco, Normal, and Sport calibrations or modes. The E250 BlueTec is the fuel-economy choice, while the E550 and AMG models are the performance-oriented options.
- Safety package: Safety equipment is grouped into the Lane Tracking Package, which includes Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, and the Driver Assistance Package, which adds active versions of Lane Tracking features plus Distronic Plus cruise control with Steering Assist, Pre-Safe Brake with Pedestrian Detection, Pre-Safe Plus, and Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist. Some of these systems are optional rather than standard.
- Infotainment: The cabin uses the COMAND system, and the test car’s display was described as small. Available tech includes hard-drive navigation, Bluetooth, mBrace2 telematics, Mercedes-Benz Apps, and access to multiple media sources, but the system was also described as fussy and slow to load information.
- Fuel efficiency: The E350 4Matic is rated at 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The test car averaged 20.3 mpg during a week of driving. The E250 BlueTec is the better choice if fuel economy matters most.
Which 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 6 trim levels: E250 BlueTec, E350, E400 Hybrid, E550 4Matic, E63 AMG 4Matic, and E63 AMG S 4Matic.
Here's the short version:
- E250 BlueTec: This is the value-minded choice if you want the most fuel-efficient sedan in the lineup and can live without the more powerful gas engines. It makes the most sense for shoppers who care more about efficiency than speed.
- E350: This is the best all-around pick for most used buyers because it balances strong V6 performance, all-wheel-drive availability, and broad everyday usability. It is the trim to focus on if you want the core E-Class experience without jumping into the pricier performance models.
- E400 Hybrid: Choose this if you want a more efficiency-focused luxury sedan with a different powertrain flavor and you find one in good condition. It sits between the mainstream and higher-output versions.
- E550 4Matic: This is the step-up choice if you want more power and a richer standard feel, especially with the available Airmatic adaptive air suspension. It suits buyers who want a more upscale, stronger-performing sedan.
- E63 AMG 4Matic: Pick this if you want the performance-focused AMG character and the extra standard equipment that comes with it. It is for buyers who care most about speed and a more aggressive setup.
- E63 AMG S 4Matic: This is the top performance choice, with the most aggressive positioning in the lineup and the highest price. It makes sense only if you specifically want the most extreme version.
The safety packages are worth seeking out, especially the Driver Assistance Package if you want the fullest set of active safety features.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,077 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.43% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,508.71, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $12,670 sits slightly below last year's $13,541.
That decline suggests the market has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. For a future seller, that means your biggest advantage will come from buying below market and keeping the car in excellent condition. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should be easier to move than neglected ones, especially in a luxury segment where condition matters a lot.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety tech package is a major part of the story here, with the Intelligent Drive umbrella adding a stereo-vision camera system and standard Collision Prevention Assist plus an improved Attention Assist system. Available features include Steering Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, Pre-Safe Brake, and Pre-Safe Plus.
The main caveat is that the active systems can feel intrusive or unpredictable at times, especially Steering Assist and lane-keeping interventions. That means you should test the driver-assistance behavior carefully on a used example to make sure it suits your preferences.
Should I buy a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Prices have softened 6.43% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It stands out for its strong performance character and its well-developed safety technology.
The bottom line: If you want the classic E-Class formula with strong owner satisfaction, solid performance, and a softer used-car price than last year, the 2014 is worth serious consideration. If you are especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-maintained example you can find rather than chasing the cheapest listing, because condition and equipment matter a lot in this segment.
