CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
overall

Summary
With 202 currently listed for sale near New York, NY and an average price of $17,169, 19.8% of 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.17 / 10.
56.9% of 2014 E-Class models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out as a midsize luxury sedan that blends comfort, premium construction, and capable dynamics. In test driving, it showed that the faster it goes, the more dynamic its performance becomes, even without the optional sport suspension. It is also described as a safe, comfortable, and dynamically capable machine built from premium materials and equipped with industry-leading technology.
Its appeal is tied to the Mercedes-Benz image as much as to the car itself, since the E-Class is presented as an aspirational symbol of personal success and the most popular midsize luxury sedan in America. At the same time, its value proposition is said to weaken if the Mercedes-Benz badge is removed, and the car is characterized as somewhat bland. Owner feedback generally reinforces the luxury-and-performance mix, with praise for its features, acceleration, handling, and interior quality, while some drivers wish for firmer body control and less softness in the ride.

Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.78/5 user rating and 6.17/10 expert rating both point to a well-liked used luxury sedan. The standout strength is Performance at 8/10.
Owners consistently praise the luxury features, strong performance, stylish design, handling, acceleration, and interior quality. That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a midsize luxury sedan that emphasizes comfort, premium construction, and capable dynamics, with appeal tied closely to the Mercedes-Benz badge and its upscale image.
With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centered on the luxury-and-performance mix and the quality of the interior. The expert evaluation also says this car should prove better than average over time, which supports the idea that you can count on it as a used luxury sedan if it has been maintained properly.
The main ownership risk for used buyers is that premium features and complex systems can become expensive if prior care has been inconsistent, so service records matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has a long option list or advanced driver-assistance equipment. Pay close attention to signs of prior bodywork, interior wear, and any squeaks or rattles, since those can matter more in a luxury sedan where refinement is part of the value proposition.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The sedan lineup includes the E250 BlueTec, E350, E400 Hybrid, E550 4Matic, E63 AMG 4Matic, and E63 AMG S 4Matic. The E250 BlueTec and E350 can be optioned with 4Matic all-wheel drive, while the Sport Styling Package changes the look with a sport grille, split-spoke wheels, a subtle body kit, and a sport-tuned suspension.
- Powertrain: The E350 uses a 3.5-liter V6 with a 7-speed automatic and all-wheel drive in the test car, and it is rated at 302 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The E250 BlueTec is the fuel-economy choice, while the E550 and AMG versions are the stronger-performance options.
- Safety package: Safety equipment is grouped into the Lane Tracking Package with Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, and the Driver Assistance Package with active Lane Tracking features plus Distronic Plus cruise control with Steering Assist, Pre-Safe Brake with Pedestrian Detection, Pre-Safe Plus, and Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist. Some of these features are optional rather than standard.
- Infotainment: The cabin uses the COMAND system, and models with the optional Premium Package 1 and hard-drive navigation can access music from AM, FM, satellite radio, Internet radio, Bluetooth, or hard-disc storage. The system also ties into mBrace2 telematics and Mercedes-Benz Apps.
- Fuel efficiency: The E350 4Matic is rated at 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The E250 BlueTec is the efficiency-focused choice, while the E550 and AMG models are not aimed at fuel economy.
Which 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 6 trim levels: E250 BlueTec, E350, E400 Hybrid, E550 4Matic, E63 AMG 4Matic, and E63 AMG S 4Matic.
Here's the short version:
- E250 BlueTec: This is the fuel-economy pick, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest running-cost focus in the lineup.
- E350: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it balances strong V6 performance, broad availability, and a more approachable price than the upper trims.
- E400 Hybrid: Choose this if you want a more efficiency-minded luxury sedan without moving all the way to the higher-performance models.
- E550 4Matic: This trim adds a stronger performance character and standard all-wheel drive, making it a good fit if you want more power and all-weather confidence.
- E63 AMG 4Matic: This is the performance-oriented choice if you want the AMG experience with all-wheel drive and more standard equipment.
- E63 AMG S 4Matic: Pick this only if you want the most aggressive version in the lineup and are willing to pay for it.
The safety equipment is organized into the Lane Tracking Package and the more comprehensive Driver Assistance Package, so check carefully whether the car you’re considering has the driver-assistance features you want.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,087 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.99% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,484, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $12,842 sits slightly below last year's $13,516.
That price movement suggests the market has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help a future seller if you buy at the right price today. Because the current average is still within a relatively tight year-round band, values appear stable rather than volatile. If you keep the car in strong condition and maintain it well, you should be better positioned to preserve value when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class benefits from significant upgrades to its safety technology, packaged under the Intelligent Drive umbrella.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety setup includes Collision Prevention Assist and an improved Attention Assist system, while available driver-assistance features include Steering Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, Pre-Safe Brake, and Pre-Safe Plus. The system also uses a stereo-vision camera to help monitor what’s ahead.
One important caveat is that neither NHTSA nor IIHS crash tests were performed on this model year, so you do not get independent crash-test ratings to lean on when comparing used examples.
Should I buy a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.99% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 model year stands out for its upgraded Intelligent Drive safety technology and its blend of comfort, premium materials, and capable dynamics.
The bottom line: If you want a used E-Class with strong owner satisfaction, a softer price trend, and a broad set of listings to compare, the 2014 is a sensible place to start. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-maintained examples near the low end of the range and verify accident history carefully before you buy.
