CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
overall

Summary
With 280 currently listed for sale near New York, NY and an average price of $37,188, 27.9% of 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
81.4% of 2022 E-Class models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out for offering something few cars in its class can match: a Cabriolet body style that gives it a distinctive open-air appeal. After a substantial refresh for the 2021 model year, the 2022 lineup changes little, which means it carries forward the updated look and feel while remaining focused on comfort and style rather than a major redesign.
For 2022, the biggest change is the cancellation of the AMG E63 and E63 S variants, and the lineup is left with turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder power plants. Automatic high-beam headlights are standard on all 2022 E-Class models, and rear USB charging ports are now standard equipment on the coupe and convertible body styles. A couple of new paint colors also join the palette, giving shoppers a few more ways to personalize the car.
That combination makes the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class appealing to buyers who want a refined luxury car with a more distinctive personality than the typical sedan. Its strengths are its upscale presentation, standard convenience features, and the rarity of its Cabriolet version, while its limitations are tied to the loss of the high-performance AMG V8 variants.

The E-class is the midsize line of Mercedes cars, so it’s fine for all sizes except for very tall and large people. The new inline six cylinder is my favorite engine because it has plenty of power and is fuel efficient. Overall, the quality is here and has been for years.

The E-class Mercedes Is the midsize car segment, and is large enough for many people who are not over 6’ 6” or more than 380 pounds in my estimation. Quality is noticed in interior seating and fit and finish. The relatively new Inline six cylinder engine has enough power with above average fuel economy. Other engines are available in four cylinder and eight cylinder variants.

Great value. 39K with 14K miles and in great condition with premium package. Took it to the Mercedes dealer for inspection and they said it was in great shape (tires, brakes, belts, filters, oil, fluid level, electronics, and even spark plugs). The interior was in pristine condition and the exterior is just as perfect.

How much does the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $39,758 |
| Year-Round Low | $39,758 |
| Year-Round High | $42,976 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $42,972 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.48% |
Prices have softened 7.48% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,028 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns 5/5 from users and 8.17/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
The 2022 model keeps the refreshed look and feel from the prior update, and it leans into comfort, style, and upscale presentation rather than a major redesign. It also stands out for offering a Cabriolet body style, which gives you a more distinctive open-air option than many rivals.
34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 E-Class is presented as a refined luxury car with a strong emphasis on comfort, convenience, and a high-end cabin. Its turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder power plants, along with the updated 2021-era refresh, point to a lineup that is more about polished everyday use than dramatic mechanical change.
The performance notes also emphasize a robust response to throttle input, with the turbo-six and mild-hybrid setup delivering strong power across much of the rev range. On the ownership side, the car’s premium positioning means upkeep can be costly, so long-term risk for used buyers is less about basic durability and more about staying ahead of expensive maintenance and option-related repairs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because even a strong accident-free share does not guarantee the individual car you’re considering has a clean past. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the convertible top, electronics, and any signs of wear in the cabin and suspension. Since this model is positioned as a luxury car with lots of equipment, condition matters as much as mileage.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup spans coupe, convertible, sedan, and station wagon body styles, and the E350, E450, and AMG E53 variants each bring a different personality. The E350 is the more understated choice, while the E450 adds the turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost, and the AMG E53 brings the most performance-focused setup. If you want the best-value balance, the E450 is the trim to focus on because it keeps the luxury and tech while avoiding the highest sticker shock.
- Powertrain: You’ll find a turbocharged four-cylinder in the E350 and a turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology in the E450 and AMG E53. The performance setup uses a 48-volt electrical system and an integrated starter generator to improve power output and efficiency.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Mercedes Pre Safe, and Pre Safe Sound. The Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control with Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Steering Assist, front automatic braking for cross traffic, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Pre Safe Plus.
- Infotainment: The cabin uses Mercedes-Benz User Experience with two 12.3-inch screens, including a touchscreen and digital instrument cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and WiFi service plus augmented reality navigation are available.
- Fuel efficiency: The mild-hybrid setup is designed to improve efficiency, though no MPG figure is stated here.
Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 3 trim levels: E350, E450, AMG E53.
Here's the short version:
- E350: This is the entry point if you want the E-Class experience with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the core luxury features. It makes the most sense if you care more about comfort and style than maximum power.
- E450: This is the best-value choice because it adds the turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost while keeping the E-Class’s upscale cabin and broad feature set. If you want the sweet spot between performance and price, this is the one to target.
- AMG E53: Choose this if you want the most performance-oriented version in the lineup, with the AMG-tuned inline-six, stronger acceleration, and more aggressive driving character. It suits you best if you want the E-Class to feel genuinely sporty.
The Driver Assistance Package is the key safety upgrade to look for if you want the fullest set of driver aids.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,028 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.48% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $39,758, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $39,758 sits slightly below last year's $42,972.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper near-term resale gains if you plan to sell soon. If you buy at or below the current average, you reduce the chance of taking an immediate depreciation hit. The year’s relatively stable range also suggests values are not swinging wildly, which is helpful if you want predictable ownership costs.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Mercedes Pre Safe, and Pre Safe Sound. The Cabriolet also adds pop-up rollbars for rollover protection, and the Driver Assistance Package brings adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assistance, lane-keeping support, blind-spot assist, evasive steering assist, and rear-collision preparation.
Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.48% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It keeps the refreshed look and feel while adding standard automatic high-beam headlights and rear USB charging ports on coupe and convertible body styles.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $36,020, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $39,758 average.
- It offers a broad mix of body styles, engines, and color choices.
The bottom line: If you want the updated 2022 E-Class with its strong safety score, solid deal availability, and distinctive Cabriolet appeal, this is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play because it delivers much of the same core appeal for less money.
