CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
overall

Summary
With 1,105 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,619.00, 31.5% of 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.17 / 10.
57.6% of 2014 E-Class models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out as a midsize luxury sedan that blends prestige, comfort, and capability. It has long been an aspirational symbol of personal success, and it remains the most popular midsize luxury sedan in America. Even so, its appeal is not just about the badge: it is described as a safe, comfortable, and dynamically capable machine built with premium materials and equipped with industry-leading technology.
What makes the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class especially distinctive is the way it rewards more spirited driving. In test driving, it showed that the faster it goes, the more dynamic its performance becomes, even without the optional sport suspension. That gives it a polished, Germanic character that should appeal to buyers who want a luxury sedan with real composure and a sense of athleticism.
At the same time, it is not without tradeoffs. Its value equation weakens if the Mercedes-Benz emblem is removed, and its styling is described as somewhat bland. Owner feedback also points to a soft ride and noticeable body lean, which may leave drivers wanting a sportier feel. Still, for buyers prioritizing comfort, quality, and a well-rounded luxury experience, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class remains an appealing choice.

If you find a listing below $12,512.51, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — 4.78/5 from owners, which is a strong sign that this model year delivers on the basics buyers care about. The expert rating is 6.17/10.
The standout strength is Performance at 8/10.
Owners repeatedly praise the luxury features, strong performance, stylish design, handling, acceleration, and interior quality. That lines up well with the overview: you’re looking at a midsize luxury sedan that emphasizes comfort, premium materials, and a more dynamic driving feel than you might expect.
The market also shows 32.4% good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a car that feels luxurious, strong, and well put together, while also suggesting that many buyers appreciate its quality and performance over time. The expert notes also say this car’s reliability should prove better than average over time, and the cost-effectiveness commentary reinforces that you may not need to worry about fixing it all the time.
That said, used buyers should still plan for age-related wear and verify maintenance history carefully, because long-term ownership risk depends heavily on how well the car was maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
At 57.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or a long option list. Pay close attention to signs of prior bodywork, interior wear, suspension behavior, and whether the electronics operate cleanly. Because this model emphasizes comfort and technology, condition matters a lot more than just the badge on the trunk.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The E-Class sedan lineup includes the E250 BlueTec, E350, E400 Hybrid, E550 4Matic, E63 AMG 4Matic, and E63 AMG S 4Matic. Base versions can leave you paying extra for items such as leather seats, heated front seats, split-folding rear seats, Keyless Go, navigation, a premium sound system, and a reversing camera.
- Powertrain: The E350 uses a 3.5-liter V6 with a 7-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, and it is rated at 302 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The E250 BlueTec is the fuel-economy choice, while the E550 and AMG models are the performance-oriented options.
- Safety package: Safety equipment is grouped into the Lane Tracking Package and the Driver Assistance Package. The Driver Assistance Package adds active versions of lane-tracking features plus Distronic Plus cruise control with Steering Assist, Pre-Safe Brake with Pedestrian Detection, Pre-Safe Plus, and Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist.
- Infotainment: The cabin uses the COMAND system, which can feel fussy to operate. The tech setup includes a small infotainment display screen, and the system can access music from AM, FM, satellite radio, Internet radio, Bluetooth, or hard-disc storage on equipped models.
- Fuel efficiency: The E350 4Matic is rated at 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The test car averaged 20.3 mpg during a week of testing, and the E250 BlueTec is the better choice if fuel economy matters most.
Which 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 6 trim levels: E250 BlueTec, E350, E400 Hybrid, E550 4Matic, E63 AMG 4Matic, and E63 AMG S 4Matic.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The E250 BlueTec and E350 are the most approachable choices, but they can feel stripped in the context of the price because items like leather seats, heated front seats, split-folding rear seats, Keyless Go, navigation, a premium sound system, and a reversing camera are not standard.
- Sweet-spot trim: The E350 is the best all-around pick if you want the core E-Class experience, because it balances strong V6 performance, all-wheel-drive availability, and the comfort-focused character that defines this model year.
- Premium/top trim: The E63 AMG S 4Matic is the most compelling top-end choice if you want maximum performance and the richest equipment, including AMG-specific upgrades and premium audio and trim details.
- Off-road trim: None of the trims here are aimed at off-road use, so there is no special daily-driver caution to weigh on that front.
The Driver Assistance Package is the safety bundle to look for if you want the most advanced driver-assistance features.

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and enough price softness to reward careful shopping.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,120 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.07% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,512.51, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $12,651 sits slightly below last year's $13,613.
That price trend suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than assuming the badge alone will protect pricing. Well-kept examples with desirable options should hold up better than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The 2014 E-Class comes with the Intelligent Drive safety umbrella, which includes a stereo-vision camera system and standard Collision Prevention Assist, plus an improved Attention Assist system. Available driver-assistance features include Steering Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, Pre-Safe Brake, and Pre-Safe Plus.
One important caveat is that crash tests were not performed by either NHTSA or IIHS for this model year, so you should lean more heavily on the car’s safety equipment, maintenance history, and overall condition when evaluating a used example.
Should I buy a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.07% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 model year stands out for its premium materials, strong performance, and advanced safety technology.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of price softness, owner satisfaction, and classic E-Class character, the 2014 is a sensible target. If you’re shopping strictly on value and want to compare against a newer, more tech-heavy alternative, a later model year may be worth a look — but for price-sensitive buyers, the 2014’s current market position makes it an appealing place to start.
