How much does the 2014 Jeep Wrangler cost?

Prices have softened 7.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,169 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2014 Jeep Wrangler a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Jeep Wrangler earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its ruggedness, power, and fun, capable driving experience, especially off-road. The overview also makes clear that you’re buying a vehicle with serious trail ability and a distinctive go-anywhere character, not an easygoing commuter. That tradeoff matters most if you want adventure and capability more than comfort and convenience.

With 29.9% of listings priced as good or great deals, there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2014 Jeep Wrangler reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that feels fun, capable, rugged, and dependable in the kinds of situations it was built for. The expert review also emphasizes that customer complaints have dwindled since Jeep’s reboot in the early 2010s, which supports the idea that this model can be a solid long-term ownership choice when maintained properly. The cost-effectiveness discussion also notes that the Wrangler holds onto a good chunk of its original value.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the Wrangler’s hard use, fuel costs, and ownership history can vary widely from one example to the next.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Jeep Wrangler?

At 63% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of the body, undercarriage, and any signs of off-road wear. Because this model is often used hard, condition matters as much as mileage. Pay close attention to how the vehicle drives on pavement, since the Wrangler’s rough ride and steering behavior can mask wear or neglect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard Wrangler lineup includes 2-door and 4-door body styles, with all versions sharing 4-wheel drive, a V6 engine, a convertible top, removable doors, and a folding windshield. The Rubicon and Rubicon X add more serious off-road hardware, while the Sahara-based Dragon Edition is described as softer and more road-oriented. The Rubicon is the best-value choice if you want the strongest trail capability without going all the way to the most heavily equipped version.
• Powertrain: The 3.6-liter V6 makes 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and it is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic. The engine is rated at 18 mpg in combined driving.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes dual front airbags, antilock brakes with brake assist, hill-start assist, all-speed traction control with a special 4-Lo setting, stability control with electronic roll mitigation, and trailer sway control. Front-seat side-impact airbags are optional.
• Infotainment: Available tech includes a 6.5-inch color touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, and navigation. The Wrangler also offers a premium audio system and heated front seats.
• Fuel efficiency: The Wrangler is rated at 18 mpg in combined driving, and a loaded Unlimited returned 17.1 mpg during a week of driving.

Which 2014 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?

The 2014 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sahara, Rubicon, and Rubicon X.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the most affordable path into the Wrangler and the one that best fits buyers who want the core Jeep experience without paying for extra hardware. It still gives you the Wrangler’s standard 4-wheel drive, V6 power, convertible top, removable doors, and folding windshield, so you’re not missing the model’s defining traits.
• Sahara: This trim is the better pick if you want a more comfort-leaning Wrangler with a softer personality than the trail-focused versions. It suits you best if you want the iconic look and capability but plan to spend more time on-road than on difficult trails.
• Rubicon: This is the best-value trim for serious off-road buyers. It adds the hardware that makes the Wrangler feel most at home off pavement, including the more advanced trail-focused equipment described in the tech and performance content.
• Rubicon X: This is the most specialized and most heavily equipped choice, adding steel bumpers, larger rock rails, and winch-ready front-end hardware. It makes sense if you want the most aggressive factory setup and are willing to pay for it.

The Rubicon trim is the one to focus on if off-road capability is your top priority.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Jeep Wrangler?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,169 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.75% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,269, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?

The current average of $15,269 sits slightly below last year's $16,551.

That price movement suggests the Wrangler has softened in the near term, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale performance will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim, since buyers will be comparing your vehicle against a fairly large pool of listings. Well-kept examples should still benefit from the Wrangler’s strong brand appeal and steady demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Jeep Wrangler safe?

The 2014 Jeep Wrangler earns a Good rating in the moderate overlap frontal-impact test from IIHS, a Marginal rating in small overlap frontal-impact and rear-impact injury prevention, and a Poor rating in the side-impact test.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes dual front airbags, antilock brakes with brake assist, hill-start assist, all-speed traction control with a special 4-Lo setting, stability control with electronic roll mitigation, and trailer sway control. Front-seat side-impact airbags are optional. The main caveat is the Wrangler’s weak crash-test performance, especially in side impact, which is an important consideration if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2014 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its affordable price and uncompromised off-road focus.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $16,203, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $15,269 average.
• It adds an upgraded sound system and fresh editions.

The bottom line: If you want the lower entry price and don’t mind the Wrangler’s rough edges, the 2014 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to pay more for a few updates and a slightly fresher feel, the 2015 is the better secondary path.

How does the 2014 Jeep Wrangler compare to the 2014 Toyota 4Runner?

Our experts score the 2014 Jeep Wrangler 7/10 and the 2014 Toyota 4Runner 8.2/10. The Wrangler is the more affordable and more trail-focused choice, while the 4Runner brings a stronger overall expert score and a more conventional SUV setup. If you want the most extreme off-road personality, the Wrangler stands apart; if you want a more balanced used SUV, the 4Runner has the edge.
