CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Honda Odyssey
overall

Summary
With 1,187 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,676, 27.9% of 2014 Honda Odysseys for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Honda Odyssey 4.45 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.83 / 10.
55.9% of 2014 Odyssey models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Honda Odyssey stands out for its broad competence. It is described as utterly capable in the city, in the suburbs, on the highway, and when taken to its limits, which speaks to a minivan that feels well-rounded rather than narrowly specialized. Honda’s approach here is presented as a refined version of the family-hauler formula, with safety, technology, performance, and comfort all working together to make the Odyssey feel like a highly complete package.
That balance is a big part of its appeal. The summary calls it the ultimate family hauler for the majority of Americans, and says there is little reason to choose another vehicle for shuttling kids unless heavy towing or travel to very remote places is required. Owner feedback reinforces the practical side of that reputation, pointing to a spacious interior and family-friendly features, along with comfort and ease of use. At the same time, some reviewers mention acceleration issues and vibration at certain speeds, so the Odyssey’s strengths are clear, but it is not entirely free of drawbacks.

I’ve been searching for an Odyssey since mine was totaled several months ago. When I test drove this one I immediately knew I would buy it. Nothing compares to the versatility and cargo room of a minivan. Road trips cross country are so fun in a van. Instant hotel on wheels.

Feature are nice on Touring model. Dual side doors open which is a plus. T V in middle is a plus. Cup holder was broken off, car has a smell to it. Under hood made a vibrating noise

The automatic doors are very nice, and allow for little children to easily handle their operation. The Hatchback is also motorized, but you have the option to manually open or close it. The Lane Departure and Front Collision warnings are great safety features. This car has some great rates on insurance as well. We get great gas mileage, and have tons of room to haul people or gear around.

Great minivan that lives up to its reputation. It drives smooth, runs well, good room inside the van for passengers.

How much does the 2014 Honda Odyssey cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,663 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,663 |
| Year-Round High | $11,607 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,608 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.14% |
Prices have softened 8.14% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,185 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey a good car?
Generally — the 2014 Honda Odyssey earns a 4.45/5 user rating and an 8.83/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal for family buyers. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, family-friendly features, comfort, and ease of use. The overview also frames it as a highly complete family hauler, especially well suited to everyday kid-shuttling and general household duty.
With 30.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively if you want strong value.
Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey reliable?
Owners rate it 4.45/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback highlights a spacious cabin, family-friendly features, comfort, and ease of use, while also pointing to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers. The expert drive notes that Honda’s VCM system operates without drawing attention, and the van’s 6-speed automatic and hill-climbing logic are described as working smoothly and without trouble.
The cost-effectiveness notes also point to better-than-average long-term ownership economics, including a favorable value-retention rating and a maintenance-friendly ownership profile. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that reliability and dependability are described as only average, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Honda Odyssey?
At 56.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, safety equipment, and signs of prior repair. Because this model is often bought for family duty, you should also pay close attention to cabin condition, sliding-door operation, and how well the interior features have held up.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX is the most affordable trim, while higher trims add features such as triple-zone climate control, power sliding side doors, keyless access, a touchscreen audio system, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power sunroof, a power tailgate, navigation, rear-seat entertainment, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and HondaVAC. The base trim leaves out many convenience and comfort upgrades, so you should compare equipment carefully.
- Powertrain: A 248-hp, 3.5-liter V6 with Variable Cylinder Management is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Honda says the setup helps the van run on fewer cylinders when cruising and coasting, and the transmission includes Grade Logic Control for hill climbing.
- Safety package: Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering II body structure is paired with SmartVent side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, an expanded-view driver’s side mirror, LaneWatch, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. The Touring Elite adds a Blind Spot Information System.
- Infotainment: The LX includes Bluetooth calling and music streaming, hands-free text messaging, Pandora Internet radio, and a USB port. Higher trims add HondaLink, a touchscreen audio system, navigation, rear-seat entertainment, HD Radio, and an Ultrawide rear-seat entertainment screen with HDMI technology.
- Fuel efficiency: The Odyssey is expected to return 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, and the review notes a 22 mpg combined estimate.
Which 2014 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?
The 2014 Honda Odyssey is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Touring Elite.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra convenience and comfort features found higher up the range.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds major everyday upgrades like triple-zone climate control, power sliding side doors, keyless access, push-button start, HondaLink, and a touchscreen audio system.
- EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin with leather, heated front seats, and a power sunroof, plus the option to add navigation or rear-seat entertainment.
- Touring: This is the better pick if you want both navigation and rear-seat entertainment together, along with bigger wheels, fog lights, parking sensors, memory settings, and third-row sunshades.
- Touring Elite: This is the top choice if you want the most equipment, including the ultrawide rear entertainment screen, premium audio, HD Radio, HID headlights, Blind Spot Information System, and HondaVAC.
The Touring Elite’s Blind Spot Information System is a notable safety upgrade, while the EX-L and Touring add important driver-assistance and family-use features.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Honda Odyssey?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,185 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.14% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,663, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Honda Odyssey's resale value?
The current average of $10,663 sits slightly below last year's $11,608.
That price movement suggests the Odyssey has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it comes time to sell. Strong demand for family-friendly minivans can also help support resale, especially when the vehicle is well maintained and cleanly documented.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey safe?
The 2014 Honda Odyssey is the first minivan to earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, and it earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in the prior model year testing referenced here.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda’s safety package includes Advanced Compatibility Engineering II body structure, SmartVent side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, an expanded-view driver’s side mirror, LaneWatch, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. The Touring Elite trim adds a Blind Spot Information System.
The IIHS result is a major strength, and the review presents the Odyssey as a standout for crash protection and family safety.
Should I buy a 2014 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.14% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- Honda’s safety upgrades helped it earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $12,459, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,663 average.
- It adds more design flair while remaining a practical family tool.
The 2014 is the better choice if you want the stronger value proposition and are focused on price, safety, and broad family usefulness. If you can spend more and want a newer model with a bit more style, the 2015 is the alternative to compare.
