CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Honda Odyssey
overall

Summary
With 74 currently listed for sale near Austin, TX and an average price of $10,423.00, 21.6% of 2014 Honda Odysseys for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Honda Odyssey 4.45 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.83 / 10.
78.4% of 2014 Odyssey models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Honda Odyssey stands out for its broad competence. It is described as capable in the city, in the suburbs, on the highway, and when taken to its limits, which gives it a polished, all-around feel that suits everyday family use. That versatility is a major part of its appeal: it is the kind of minivan that aims to handle nearly every routine task without drawing attention to itself.
Honda’s approach here is to make the Odyssey feel like a thoroughly complete family hauler. The summary says Honda has perfected the minivan recipe, and that the 2014 Odyssey represents the ultimate in family haulers for most Americans, with strengths in safety, technology, performance, and comfort. Owner feedback reinforces the practical side of that formula, especially the spacious interior, automatic doors, and backup camera. The main caveat is that some reviewers reported acceleration and vibration at certain speeds, so while the Odyssey is highly capable and easy to live with, it is not entirely free of drawbacks.

I’ve been searching for an Odyssey since mine was totaled several months ago. When I test drove this one I immediately knew I would buy it. Nothing compares to the versatility and cargo room of a minivan. Road trips cross country are so fun in a van. Instant hotel on wheels.

Feature are nice on Touring model. Dual side doors open which is a plus. T V in middle is a plus. Cup holder was broken off, car has a smell to it. Under hood made a vibrating noise

The automatic doors are very nice, and allow for little children to easily handle their operation. The Hatchback is also motorized, but you have the option to manually open or close it. The Lane Departure and Front Collision warnings are great safety features. This car has some great rates on insurance as well. We get great gas mileage, and have tons of room to haul people or gear around.

Great minivan that lives up to its reputation. It drives smooth, runs well, good room inside the van for passengers.

If you find a listing below $10,716.58, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey a good car?
Generally — the 2014 Honda Odyssey earns 4.45/5 from users and 8.83/10 from experts. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, automatic doors, and backup camera, which makes the Odyssey especially appealing if you want an easy-to-live-with family hauler. The overview also frames it as a highly capable minivan for city, suburban, highway, and near-the-limit driving, so it fits well if you want broad everyday versatility. The market also shows 29.7% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey reliable?
Owners rate it 4.45/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable, family-friendly ownership experience, with repeated praise for the spacious cabin and easy-to-use features. The expert review also describes the Odyssey as cost-effective and among the more fuel-efficient minivans on sale, which supports the case for steady everyday use. Honda’s 6-speed automatic and VCM setup are presented as durable-feeling pieces of the package, and the review notes that the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house. Still, the expert cost-effectiveness commentary says reliability and dependability predictions were only average, so used buyers should pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Honda Odyssey?
At 54.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van has been used heavily for family duty. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven wear, and any evidence that the sliding doors, camera systems, or interior electronics have been stressed. Because this model is often bought for daily family use, condition matters as much as mileage.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX is the most basic version, while higher trims add features such as power sliding side doors, a touchscreen audio system with HondaLink, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power tailgate, and more. The base trim lacks many of those convenience and comfort upgrades.
- Powertrain: A 248-hp, 3.5-liter V6 pairs with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Honda’s Variable Cylinder Management helps improve efficiency, and the van is described as responsive, energetic, and surprisingly capable for a minivan.
- Safety package: Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering II body structure is paired with SmartVent side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, an expanded-view driver’s side mirror, LaneWatch, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. The Touring Elite also adds a Blind Spot Information System.
- Infotainment: The LX includes Bluetooth calling and music streaming, hands-free text messaging, Pandora Internet radio, and a USB port. Higher trims add a touchscreen audio system, HondaLink, navigation, rear-seat entertainment, HD Radio, and a premium Surround Sound system.
- Fuel efficiency: The Odyssey is expected to return 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, and the review cites 22 mpg combined as the EPA estimate. The test vehicle averaged 19.8 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2014 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?
The 2014 Honda Odyssey is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Touring Elite.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LX gives you the essentials, but it skips many of the convenience and comfort upgrades found higher up the range, including power sliding side doors and the more advanced infotainment features.
- Sweet-spot trim: The EX looks like the best value because it adds triple-zone automatic climate control, a power driver’s seat, push-button start, HondaLink, and a touchscreen audio system without jumping to luxury-trim pricing.
- Premium/top trim: The Touring Elite is the most feature-rich choice, adding an ultrawide rear entertainment screen, premium audio, HD Radio, HID headlights, Blind Spot Information System, and HondaVAC.
- Off-road trim: None of the trims are aimed at off-road use.
The Touring Elite’s Blind Spot Information System is a notable safety upgrade, while the EX-L adds Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Honda Odyssey?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,135 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.09% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 54.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,716.58, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Honda Odyssey's resale value?
The current average of $10,808 sits slightly below last year's $11,632.
That price movement suggests the Odyssey has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number. A lower entry price today can leave more room for value retention later, especially if you choose a well-kept example with strong equipment and clean history. The model’s broad owner satisfaction also helps support demand when it’s time to resell.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey safe?
The 2014 Honda Odyssey earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, with a top rating of Good in every assessment, including the small overlap frontal-impact test.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering II body structure is designed to redirect crash energy away from the passenger compartment, and the van also includes SmartVent side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, an expanded-view driver’s side mirror, LaneWatch, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. The Touring Elite adds a Blind Spot Information System. The review does note that NHTSA had not tested this model year at the time of writing.
Should I buy a 2014 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.09% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong safety, technology, performance, and comfort in a highly capable family hauler.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $12,312, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,808 average.
- It has greater design flair and remains a practical family-focused minivan.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong safety and broad capability. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year and slightly more visual appeal, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider.
