CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Honda Odyssey
overall

Summary
With 91 currently listed for sale near Houston, TX and an average price of $9,437.00, 24.2% of 2014 Honda Odysseys for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Honda Odyssey 4.45 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.83 / 10.
71.4% of 2014 Odyssey models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Honda Odyssey stands out for its broad competence. It is described as capable in the city, in the suburbs, on the highway, and when taken to its limits, which gives it a polished, all-around feel that suits everyday family use. That versatility is a major part of its appeal: it is the kind of minivan that aims to handle nearly every routine task without drawing attention to itself.
Honda’s approach here is to make the Odyssey feel like a thoroughly complete family hauler. The summary says Honda has perfected the minivan recipe, and that the 2014 Odyssey represents the ultimate in family haulers for most Americans, with strengths in safety, technology, performance, and comfort. Owner feedback reinforces the practical side of that formula, especially the spacious interior, automatic doors, and backup camera. The main caveat is that some reviewers reported acceleration and vibration at certain speeds, so while the Odyssey is highly capable and easy to live with, it is not entirely free of drawbacks.

I’ve been searching for an Odyssey since mine was totaled several months ago. When I test drove this one I immediately knew I would buy it. Nothing compares to the versatility and cargo room of a minivan. Road trips cross country are so fun in a van. Instant hotel on wheels.

Feature are nice on Touring model. Dual side doors open which is a plus. T V in middle is a plus. Cup holder was broken off, car has a smell to it. Under hood made a vibrating noise

The automatic doors are very nice, and allow for little children to easily handle their operation. The Hatchback is also motorized, but you have the option to manually open or close it. The Lane Departure and Front Collision warnings are great safety features. This car has some great rates on insurance as well. We get great gas mileage, and have tons of room to haul people or gear around.

Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey a good car?
Generally — the 2014 Honda Odyssey earns a 4.45/5 user rating and an 8.83/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal for family buyers. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, automatic doors, and backup camera, and the overview frames it as a highly capable family hauler that handles city, suburban, highway, and more demanding driving with ease. That makes it a strong fit if you want a minivan that feels complete and easy to live with rather than flashy.
The market also shows 26.3% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey reliable?
Owners rate it 4.45/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to a dependable, family-friendly vehicle with a spacious interior and easy-to-use features that owners can count on day to day. The expert notes also describe it as a cost-effective choice with better-than-average long-term ownership value, which supports the case for steady use over time.
Honda’s performance notes emphasize that the Odyssey is responsive, energetic, and surprisingly capable, while the cost-effectiveness section adds that it is among the more fuel-efficient minivans on sale. That said, the same ownership data also points to average reliability and dependability predictions, so a careful pre-purchase inspection still matters for used buyers planning to keep it long term.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Honda Odyssey?
At 56.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, alignment, and any signs of prior repair quality. Because the model is family-focused and often used heavily, condition matters as much as mileage, especially for sliding doors, interior wear, and electronics.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX is the most affordable trim, while the EX adds triple-zone automatic climate control, a 10-way power driver’s seat, power sliding side doors, keyless access with push-button start, a touchscreen audio system with HondaLink technology, LaneWatch, a universal garage door opener, and second-row window sunshades. The EX-L adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power sunroof, a power tailgate, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning, while Touring and Touring Elite add more luxury and convenience equipment.
- Powertrain: A 248-hp, 3.5-liter V6 with Variable Cylinder Management is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Honda says the setup helps the van run on fewer cylinders when cruising and coasting, and the transmission includes Grade Logic Control for hill climbing.
- Safety package: Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering II body structure is standard, along with SmartVent side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, an expanded-view driver’s side mirror, LaneWatch, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. The Touring Elite trim adds a Blind Spot Information System.
- Infotainment: The LX includes Bluetooth calling and music streaming, hands-free text messaging, Pandora Internet radio, and a USB port. Higher trims add HondaLink, a touchscreen audio system, navigation, rear-seat entertainment, HDMI technology, HD Radio, and a premium Surround Sound audio system.
- Fuel efficiency: Honda says all 2014 Odysseys are expected to get 19 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway, and the review notes a combined estimate of 22 mpg.
Which 2014 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?
The 2014 Honda Odyssey is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Touring Elite.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, and it already gives you Bluetooth calling and music streaming, hands-free text messaging, Pandora Internet radio, and a USB port. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Odyssey without chasing extras.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the biggest everyday convenience upgrades, including power sliding doors, push-button start, HondaLink, a touchscreen audio system, LaneWatch, and second-row sunshades.
- EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale family hauler, since it adds leather, heated front seats, a power sunroof, a power tailgate, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning.
- Touring: This trim is the right step up if you want both navigation and rear-seat entertainment together, plus bigger wheels, fog lights, parking sensors, memory settings, and third-row sunshades.
- Touring Elite: This is the top choice if you want the most equipment, including the ultrawide rear entertainment screen, premium audio, HD Radio, HID headlights, Blind Spot Information System, and HondaVAC.
The safety package is especially strong across the lineup, with Honda’s ACE II structure, SmartVent airbags, reversing camera, LaneWatch, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning helping define the model’s appeal.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Honda Odyssey?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 26.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,138 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.00% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,718.05, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Honda Odyssey's resale value?
The current average of $10,852 sits slightly below last year's $11,668.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and trim than on broad market momentum alone.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey safe?
The Odyssey is the first minivan to earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS, with a top rating of Good in every assessment, including the small overlap frontal-impact test.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda’s safety package includes Advanced Compatibility Engineering II body structure, SmartVent side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, an expanded-view driver’s side mirror, LaneWatch, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. The Touring Elite trim adds a Blind Spot Information System.
That said, the strongest safety equipment is not evenly distributed across every trim, so you should confirm the exact feature set before buying a lower trim.
Should I buy a 2014 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 26.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.00% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- Honda’s 2014 updates made the Odyssey a standout for safety, technology, performance, and comfort.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $12,325, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,852 average.
- It adds greater design flair and a stronger visual appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model with a bit more visual polish, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider.
