How much does the 2014 Ford Focus cost?

Is the 2014 Ford Focus a good car?

Generally — the 2014 Ford Focus earns 4/5 from users and 7.7/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Drivers most often praise its stylish design, excellent fuel economy, and comfortable front seats, along with a good sound system. The overview also points to a solid chassis and responsive suspension, which helps it feel more substantial and engaging than a typical compact car.

For you, that means the Focus makes sense if you want a compact car that feels more polished and enjoyable than its price suggests. The market also shows 28.6% of listings as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2014 Ford Focus reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback repeatedly raises concern about recurring transmission issues, especially with the automatic transmission, even while praising the car’s value and everyday livability. The expert drive notes that the dual-clutch automatic can hunt, shudder, and feel awkward in traffic, which lines up with those owner concerns.

The transmission behavior is the main long-term ownership risk for used buyers, so you should focus on service history and how the car drives in stop-and-go conditions.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Ford Focus?

At 61.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering an automatic. Pay close attention to transmission behavior on a test drive, along with signs of prior body damage or uneven wear. Condition matters here more than usual because the market includes a meaningful number of cars with accident history.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: S and SE trims use rear drum brakes, while other trims get 4-wheel discs; the Titanium adds stronger stopping performance and more upscale equipment.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder makes 160 hp and is paired with a dual-clutch 6-speed automatic; a manual transmission is also mentioned, and the transmission character is a key thing to test carefully.
• Safety package: Seven airbags come standard, including a driver’s knee airbag, and the car earned top marks from both major safety organizations.
• Infotainment: The Titanium includes Ford Sync, MyFord Touch, an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, and a rear-view camera; the system is criticized for being clunky and distracting.
• Fuel efficiency: The automatic returns 27 mpg city/37 mpg highway, while the manual drops 1 mpg on both ends.

Which 2014 Ford Focus trim should I buy?

The 2014 Ford Focus is offered in 1 trim level: Titanium.

Here's the short version:

The Titanium is the trim that best shows what this Focus can be when it’s equipped more fully, with the strongest feature set and the most upscale feel in the data. It adds the better braking setup, the upgraded Sony sound system, the 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and start, and a rear-view camera. If you want the most complete version and can live with the clunky infotainment, this is the one to target.

The safety package note is simple: every Focus gets seven airbags and strong crash-test results, but braking hardware varies by trim.

• Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,164 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.12% compared with last year.

What is the 2014 Ford Focus's resale value?

The current average of $6,862 sits slightly below last year's $7,011.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. If you keep the car in good condition and avoid the transmission-related trouble spots, you may be better positioned when it’s time to sell. Strong demand for affordable, well-equipped compact cars can still support resale, especially for cleaner examples.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Ford Focus safe?

The 2014 Ford Focus earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crashes for the passenger and in rollover testing, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it its highest rating of Good in all tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Seven airbags come standard, including a driver’s knee airbag. The safety content also notes that braking performance varies by trim, with S and SE models using rear drum brakes while other trims get 4-wheel discs. That means you should pay attention to trim choice if braking feel matters to you.

Should I buy a 2014 Ford Focus or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.12% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines a fresh-feeling redesign with strong safety results and engaging road manners.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $7,664, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $6,862 average.
• It brings a more polished, European-influenced ride and handling.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because pricing is softer and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for a slightly more refined driving feel, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider.
