What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Dodge Charger?

At 49.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or heavily optioned example. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car’s features and electronics still work as intended. Because this model can be bought in several configurations, it also helps to compare equipment carefully so you know what you’re getting for the money.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE includes standard LED taillights, a power 6-way driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, three power accessory outlets, and a USB audio auxiliary jack, while the SXT adds more equipment and a more upscale feel. The SXT is the best-value choice if you want the strongest mix of style and everyday features without jumping to the V8 trims.
• Powertrain: The base V6 is paired with either a 5-speed automatic or an 8-speed automatic, and the 8-speed version improves economy. If you want more power, the R/T uses a 5.7-liter V8, while the SRT uses a 6.4-liter V8.
• Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, and rear cross-path warning. The backup camera is a standout feature, with a large, crisp display.
• Infotainment: The available Uconnect system is designed to be easy to use, and the available Beats By Dre stereo works well when connected through Bluetooth.
• Fuel efficiency: The base rear-wheel-drive V6 with the 5-speed automatic returns 18 mpg city/27 highway, while V6 models with the 8-speed automatic achieve 19/31. The all-wheel-drive SXT with the 8-speed automatic is estimated at 18/27, the R/T achieves 15/25, the AWD R/T gets 15/23, and the SRT returns 17/23.

Which 2014 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?

The 2014 Dodge Charger is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SXT, R/T, SRT.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Charger’s core style plus standard LED taillights, a power 6-way driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, three power accessory outlets, and a USB audio auxiliary jack. It makes sense if you want the look and basic functionality at the lowest price.
• SXT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more polish and was the test vehicle used in the expert review. It suits you if you want the Charger’s personality, the V6’s quick acceleration, and a more complete everyday feature set without moving into V8 territory.
• R/T: This trim steps up to the 5.7-liter V8 and is the right pick if you want a much stronger performance focus. Choose it if power matters more to you than fuel economy.
• SRT: This is the top performance choice, with a 6.4-liter V8 and the most aggressive setup in the lineup. It fits you best if you want the most serious Charger experience and are willing to accept the fuel penalty.

The safety package includes lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, and rear cross-path warning, with the backup camera standing out for its clarity.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Dodge Charger?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards comparison shopping more than impulse buying.

• Deal availability: 20.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 556 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.21% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 49.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,207, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Dodge Charger's resale value?

The current average of $10,219 sits slightly below last year's $11,134.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and hold the car for a while. For a future seller, the key question is whether your specific Charger stays desirable enough to stand out from the broader used market. Well-kept examples with the right equipment should be easier to move than neglected ones, especially because shoppers still respond to the car’s style and performance image.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Dodge Charger safe?

The 2014 Dodge Charger earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Charger is equipped with standard airbags and traction control, and it also offers lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, and rear cross-path warning. The backup camera is a particular strength because of its large, crisp display. One caveat is that the forward warning can be oversensitive, so you may need to get used to how it alerts you in some situations.

Should I buy a 2014 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 20.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 49.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.21% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review highlights a sophisticated driving character beneath the Charger’s retro muscle-car styling.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,970, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,219 average.
• It brings a sleeker front end and brighter rear styling.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a broad inventory. If you’re willing to pay more for updated styling, the 2015 is the cleaner alternative, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2014 and shop carefully for condition and equipment.
