Is the 2014 Dodge Charger reliable?

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been cared for properly, since condition and maintenance history matter more than the badge alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Dodge Charger?

At 45.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on body condition, electronics, and how the car drives, since the Charger’s size, tech, and performance hardware can make neglected examples more expensive to sort out. If you are comparing multiple listings, the cleanest example is usually worth paying a little more for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE includes 164 standard LED taillights, a power 6-way driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, three power accessory outlets, and a USB audio auxiliary jack. The SXT adds more equipment and is the better-equipped choice if you want a richer feature set without jumping to the V8 trims.
• Powertrain: The base V6 with an 8-speed automatic is described as surprisingly quick, and the car can also be had with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Higher trims add V8 power, but the V6 is the practical balance for most shoppers.
• Safety package: The available suite includes lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, a backup camera, and rear cross-path warning. Some warnings can be overly sensitive, so you should test the system during your drive.
• Infotainment: The available Uconnect system is designed to be easy to use, and the car can be equipped with Bluetooth connectivity and Beats audio. The backup camera display is especially crisp and easy to read.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 with the 5-speed automatic returns 18 mpg city and 27 highway, while the V6 with the 8-speed automatic improves to 19 city and 31 highway. The all-wheel-drive V6 with the 8-speed automatic is estimated at 18/27.

Which 2014 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?

The 2014 Dodge Charger is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SXT, R/T, SRT.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Charger’s style and core equipment at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the look and basic functionality without paying for extras.
• SXT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more equipment while keeping the V6’s everyday usability. It is the trim that best matches the Charger’s mix of style, comfort, and performance.
• R/T: Choose this if you want the V8 experience and stronger straight-line performance. It is the right step up if power matters more to you than fuel economy.
• SRT: This is the top performance choice, aimed at buyers who want the most aggressive version of the Charger. It is the most expensive path and makes sense only if you specifically want the highest-output model.

The safety package adds lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, a backup camera, and rear cross-path warning.

• Deal availability: 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 603 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.29% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $10,346, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Dodge Charger's resale value?

The current average of $10,555 sits slightly below last year's $11,144.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you choose a clean, well-kept example, you may have a better chance of holding value than if you buy a rougher car that needs immediate work. The Charger’s strong enthusiast appeal also helps keep demand alive among shoppers who want style and performance in a full-size sedan.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Dodge Charger safe?

The 2014 Dodge Charger earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes with standard airbags and traction control, plus available lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, a backup camera, and rear cross-path warning. The backup camera is a standout because of its large, crisp display, and the car’s size also adds a sense of security. Some of the warning systems can be overly sensitive, so you should test them to make sure they suit your driving style.

Should I buy a 2014 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 45.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.29% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It pairs bold styling with a quick V6 and a sophisticated, modern-feeling cabin.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,394, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,555 average.
• It brings a sleeker front end and brighter rear styling.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and plenty of inventory. If you are willing to spend more for updated styling, the 2015 is the better path.

How does the 2014 Dodge Charger compare to the 2014 Chevrolet Impala?

Our experts score the 2014 Dodge Charger 8.3/10 and the 2014 Chevrolet Impala 7.8/10.

The Charger is the more performance-focused choice, with stronger acceleration and a more expressive personality. The Impala counters with better fuel economy and a slightly lower average used price, so it may appeal more if you want a calmer full-size sedan. If you care most about style and driving excitement, the Charger has the edge; if efficiency and value matter more, the Impala is the easier daily-driver pick.
