Used 2014 BMW i3 for Sale nearNewburgh, NY

Is the 2014 BMW i3 a good car?

The 3.6/5 user rating and 6.8/10 expert rating point to a car that is appealing but not universally easy to live with. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Drivers most often praise the i3’s fun driving experience, comfort, and futuristic design. It also comes through as a strong city car, which fits the overview’s emphasis on a vehicle that feels unlike most others on the road while still keeping familiar car basics.

The tradeoffs are just as clear: some shoppers are disappointed by battery range and interior material quality, and it may not suit long commutes because of charging limitations. With only 16.7% of listings priced as good or great deals, you should expect to shop selectively rather than assume every example is a bargain.

Is the 2014 BMW i3 reliable?

The overview frames the 2014 BMW i3 as a car built around efficiency and a very different design approach, but one that comes with compromises you should weigh carefully. Drivers describe it as reliable, dependable, and trouble-free in the context of everyday city use, especially when the car’s short-trip mission matches your routine.

The expert drive notes that the i3’s fully hydraulic brakes avoid the grabby feel that can plague some electrified vehicles, and the range-extender setup is described as barely noticeable when it kicks in. BMW also says the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the car’s range, charging needs, and specialized construction can make it less forgiving if you need broad daily flexibility.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 BMW i3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on battery-related behavior, charging equipment, and any signs of heavy urban wear. Pay close attention to interior condition too, since material quality is a recurring concern among shoppers.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Mega World setup is the most stripped-down example, while Giga World and Tera World add extra trim pieces such as eucalyptus wood and leather seats. The base version is the one most likely to feel sparse, so compare cabin materials and comfort features closely.
• Powertrain: The i3 uses rear-wheel drive with a battery-electric setup, and the range-extender version adds a 2-cylinder, 647-cubic-centimeter engine that only supports the electric motor when the battery runs low. Efficiency is a major part of the appeal, but range can drop quickly if you drive aggressively.
• Safety package: BMW offers a Parking Assistant Package that adds Parking Assistant, Distance Control, and a rear-view camera, plus a Technology + Driving Assistant Package with navigation with real-time traffic, Active Driving assistant, and BMW online services. The base car does not include those extras.
• Infotainment: The Technology + Driving Assistant Package adds navigation with real-time traffic, and the iDrive system is praised for ease of use and speed. The available Harman Kardon audio system is another notable upgrade.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert drive cites 75 miles of electric-only range, and the range-extender setup adds about 75 miles more. BMW also claims 80% charge in 30 minutes on a DC fast charger and about 30 miles of range per hour with the home charging station.

Which 2014 BMW i3 trim should I buy?

The 2014 BMW i3 is offered in 3 trim levels: Mega World, Giga World, and Tera World.

Here's the short version:

• Mega World: This is the entry point, and it makes the i3’s core design and driving experience accessible without the extra cabin upgrades. It’s the one to choose if you care most about getting into the i3 at the lowest cost, but it is also the most stripped-down.
• Giga World: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more upscale trim pieces, including eucalyptus wood and leather seats, without changing the i3’s basic character. If you want the i3’s distinctive feel without going all the way to the top, this is the sweet spot.
• Tera World: This is the most upscale version in the lineup, and it builds on the same unusual architecture with the richest cabin presentation. Choose it if interior ambiance matters most to you and you want the most premium-feeling i3.

The safety content notes that BMW claims the passenger compartment will remain intact in crashes up to 40 mph, but official crash testing had not been completed.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 BMW i3?

• Clean inventory: 80.6% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2014 BMW i3 safe?

The 2014 BMW i3 has not been tested by either NHTSA or IIHS, so there is no official crash-test rating to cite. It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW says the car comes with 6 standard airbags, plus traction and stability control. The available Parking Assistant Package adds Parking Assistant, Distance Control, and a rear-view camera, while the Technology + Driving Assistant Package adds navigation with real-time traffic, Active Driving assistant, and BMW online services.

The main caveat is that you do not get official crash-test validation here, so you should lean more heavily on condition, equipment, and maintenance history when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2014 BMW i3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 16.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• It delivers a distinctive, city-friendly driving experience with futuristic design and strong efficiency focus.

Consider the 2015 if:

• It adds an 80-mile battery range and a more polished tech-first presentation.

The bottom line: The 2014 is the better path if you want the i3’s original concept at a potentially lower entry point and you can live with its range and charging tradeoffs. If you want a slightly more developed version of the same idea, the 2015 is the safer secondary path for shoppers who can stretch their budget.
