CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Acura MDX
overall

Summary
With 36 currently listed for sale near Los Angeles, CA and an average price of $12,182, 36.1% of 2014 Acura MDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Acura MDX 4.67 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
88.9% of 2014 MDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Acura MDX stands out as a redesigned luxury crossover that aims to balance refinement with athleticism. Acura describes its driving character as exacting and finely tuned, delivering the luxurious experience most owners want while still retaining the athleticism most owners need. That combination gives the MDX a broad appeal: it is meant to feel polished without giving up the responsiveness buyers expect from a more engaging SUV.
Compared with the previous MDX, the 2014 model is presented as a better SUV in almost every respect, even if it is not as visually exciting. Acura also makes clear that it should not be dismissed as merely a stretched seven-passenger version of the smaller RDX with fancy LED headlights. In owner feedback, the MDX is commonly praised for luxury, comfort, performance, spaciousness, smooth ride quality, and fuel economy, though some drivers have noted concerns about seat comfort and a decline in material quality compared with earlier models.

I can't get over the handling. So responsive with a very tight turning radius. Lots of power, nearly 300 HP. The engine has the ability to shut down three of the six cylinders under certain steady state conditions so the highway mileage is usually around 27-28 mpg. Highly recommend this vehicle. I have owned about 70 cars thus far and would put this one in the top three. A few years back I wrote a book about 40 of the more interesting ones, titled Forty Cars That Owned Me. I'll have to add this one when I revise the book to bring it up to date.

How much does the 2014 Acura MDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,144 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,039 |
| Year-Round High | $13,171 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,168 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.77% |
Prices have softened 7.77% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 570 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Acura MDX earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its luxury, comfort, and performance, and they also highlight the spacious interior, smooth ride, and fuel economy. In practical terms, that lines up well with its role as a redesigned three-row luxury crossover meant to balance refinement with athleticism. With 30.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers also describe it in terms that point to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise centered on comfort, performance, and the kind of day-to-day usability that makes a vehicle easy to count on. The expert review adds that the MDX is engineered with a strong, refined V6 and carefully calibrated driving dynamics, which supports the impression of a well-sorted vehicle. Acura also notes fuel-saving Variable Cylinder Management, which can help reduce operating strain over time.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that this is a luxury SUV, so upkeep can be more expensive than on a mainstream three-row model.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Acura MDX?
At 57% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with a long option list. Pay close attention to seat comfort, interior wear, and overall material condition, since owners have noted concerns in those areas. It is also smart to confirm that the equipment you want is actually present, because many of the MDX’s most desirable features were bundled into option packages.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base version is relatively light on technology beyond Bluetooth, music streaming, hands-free text messaging, a USB port, a reversing camera, and Jewel Eye LED headlights. The Technology Package adds keyless access, navigation with real-time traffic, a premium sound system, GPS-linked climate control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind spot information, and 19-inch wheels. The Technology and Entertainment Package adds a rear-seat DVD system with a 9-inch screen, wireless headphones, a remote control, a power outlet, and heated rear seats. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds a 16.2-inch widescreen display, premium perforated leather seats, ventilated front seats, auto-dimming side mirrors, remote engine start, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking.
- Powertrain: The MDX uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Variable Cylinder Management helps conserve fuel, and front-wheel drive is standard with Super Handling All-Wheel Drive available.
- Safety package: The Technology Package adds forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind spot information. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. Base versions do not get those driver-assistance features.
- Infotainment: Every MDX has twin display screens, and the base setup includes Bluetooth, music streaming, hands-free text messaging, a USB port, and a reversing camera. Higher packages add navigation, real-time traffic, a premium sound system, and a rear-seat entertainment system with a 9-inch screen; the top package replaces that with a 16.2-inch widescreen display.
- Fuel efficiency: The fully loaded test vehicle was rated at 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, for 21 mpg combined, and the test vehicle returned 22 mpg in mixed driving.
Which 2014 Acura MDX trim should I buy?
The 2014 Acura MDX is offered in 3 trim levels: base, Technology Package, and Advance and Entertainment Package.
Here's the short version:
- base: This is the right pick if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra convenience, safety, and luxury features. It still gives you the core MDX experience, but it is the most stripped-down version.
- Technology Package: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds navigation, premium audio, keyless access, real-time traffic, and important driver-assistance features like blind spot information, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning.
- Advance and Entertainment Package: Choose this if you want the most fully equipped MDX, including the larger 16.2-inch display, ventilated front seats, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking.
The safety-package upgrades are concentrated in the higher trims, so if driver assistance matters to you, avoid the base version.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Acura MDX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 570 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.77% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,039, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $12,144 sits slightly below last year's $13,168.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price and keep the vehicle in good condition, you can reduce the impact of further depreciation. The fact that demand is still supported by a solid reputation and broad appeal should help the MDX remain reasonably marketable.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX safe?
The 2014 Acura MDX gets a Good rating in both the moderate overlap frontal-impact test and the side-impact test from IIHS, and its front crash prevention rating is Advanced.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The MDX’s named driver-assistance features include blind spot information, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. Some of those features are bundled into higher trims, so base versions miss out on much of the advanced safety equipment. The lane departure warning system is also described as hyper-active and sometimes inaccurate, so that is worth keeping in mind if you are sensitive to false alerts.
Should I buy a 2014 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.77% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesigned 2014 model is presented as a better SUV in almost every respect than the previous generation, with stronger refinement, better driving dynamics, and a more modern overall package.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned MDX with strong owner satisfaction, solid expert praise, and a market that has already softened, the 2014 is the right year to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, focus on well-kept listings near the low end of the range and prioritize history checks and inspections before you buy.
