CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Acura MDX
overall

Summary
With 612 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,375.00, 37.6% of 2014 Acura MDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Acura MDX 4.67 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
66.5% of 2014 MDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Acura MDX stands out as a redesigned luxury crossover that aims to balance refinement with athletic ability. Acura describes its driving character as exacting and finely tuned, delivering the luxurious experience most owners want while still retaining the athleticism most owners need. That combination is a big part of its appeal: it is meant to feel polished without giving up the responsiveness buyers expect from an Acura.
Compared with the previous MDX, the 2014 model is presented as a more broadly appealing SUV. Acura says it may not look as exciting as the old MDX, but it is a better SUV in almost every respect, and it is not simply a stretched seven-passenger version of the smaller Acura RDX with fancy LED headlights. Owner feedback generally reinforces that appeal, with praise for luxury, comfort, performance, spaciousness, smooth ride, and fuel economy.
There are also a few caveats worth noting. Some owners have raised concerns about seat comfort and a decline in material quality compared with earlier models. Even so, the 2014 Acura MDX remains distinctive for buyers who want a family-friendly crossover that still emphasizes a carefully tuned driving experience.

I can't get over the handling. So responsive with a very tight turning radius. Lots of power, nearly 300 HP. The engine has the ability to shut down three of the six cylinders under certain steady state conditions so the highway mileage is usually around 27-28 mpg. Highly recommend this vehicle. I have owned about 70 cars thus far and would put this one in the top three. A few years back I wrote a book about 40 of the more interesting ones, titled Forty Cars That Owned Me. I'll have to add this one when I revise the book to bring it up to date.

If you find a listing below $12,037.41, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Acura MDX earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its luxury, comfort, performance, spacious interior, smooth ride, and fuel economy. The MDX also fits well if you want a three-row luxury crossover SUV that balances family practicality with an upscale feel.
With 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable over time, with recurring praise for comfort, performance, and fuel economy. The expert review also describes the MDX as a refined SUV with strong driving dynamics and a well-calibrated chassis, which supports the impression of a vehicle you can count on day to day.
The model’s fuel-saving engine technology and overall refinement are positives for ownership, and the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that condition and maintenance history will matter more than the badge itself, so a careful inspection is still important.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Acura MDX?
At 58.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven wear, and any evidence that the vehicle’s luxury features or driver-assistance systems were repaired after damage. Because this model year can be found in a wide range of conditions, the best buys are the ones with clean records and consistent maintenance.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base version is relatively light on technology beyond Bluetooth, music streaming, hands-free text messaging, a USB port, a reversing camera, and Jewel Eye LED headlights. The Technology Package adds keyless access, navigation, premium audio, GPS-linked climate control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind spot information, and larger 19-inch wheels. The Technology and Entertainment Package adds rear-seat DVD entertainment, wireless headphones, a remote control, a power outlet, and heated rear seats. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds a larger widescreen display, premium perforated leather, ventilated front seats, auto-dimming side mirrors, remote engine start, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking.
- Powertrain: The 3.5-liter V6 makes 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, uses Variable Cylinder Management to conserve fuel, and pairs with a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive is optional.
- Safety package: The Technology Package adds forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind spot information. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. Base versions miss much of that driver-assistance content.
- Infotainment: The MDX uses twin display screens, and the upper trim packages expand the setup with navigation, AcuraLink real-time traffic, premium audio, and a rear-seat entertainment system with a 9-inch screen. The Advance and Entertainment Package replaces that with a 16.2-inch widescreen display.
- Fuel efficiency: The MDX is rated at 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, with a combined 21 mpg. In testing, it returned 22 mpg.
Which 2014 Acura MDX trim should I buy?
The 2014 Acura MDX is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Technology Package, Technology and Entertainment Package, and Advance and Entertainment Package.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: This is the one to skip if you want the full luxury-SUV experience. It lacks the richer safety, navigation, and entertainment upgrades that make the MDX feel more complete.
- Sweet-spot trim: The Technology Package is the best value if you want the biggest jump in everyday usefulness. It adds navigation, premium audio, keyless access, and important safety tech without pushing you all the way to the top price tier.
- Premium/top trim: The Advance and Entertainment Package is the most fully equipped choice, adding the widescreen display, ventilated front seats, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking.
- Off-road trim: None of the trims here are aimed at off-road use, so there is no special off-road recommendation for typical daily driving.
The Technology Package is the key safety-package step up if you want blind spot information, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning without paying for the top trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Acura MDX?
The market looks moderate and selective buyers should still have room to negotiate.
- Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 628 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.62% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,037.41, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $12,418 sits slightly below last year's $13,299.
That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell. Demand should remain supported by the MDX’s strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal as a three-row luxury crossover.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX safe?
The IIHS says the MDX gets a Good rating in both the moderate overlap frontal-impact test and in the side-impact test, and the front crash prevention rating is Advanced.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The blind-spot information system is a standout feature, and the Technology Package adds forward collision warning and lane departure warning. The Advance and Entertainment Package goes further with adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. Base versions miss much of that advanced safety content, so you should pay close attention to trim if safety tech matters to you.
One caveat is that the lane departure warning system can be overly sensitive, so it is worth testing during your own drive to see whether it suits your roads and driving style.
Should I buy a 2014 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.62% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesigned model brings a stronger blend of comfort, performance, and practicality, with a more modern Acura look and a well-rounded three-row layout.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned MDX with strong performance, good fuel economy, and broad family appeal, the 2014 is the right target. If you are especially price-sensitive, focus on clean, well-maintained examples near the low end of the current range and compare them carefully against nearby model years before you commit.
