CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Acura MDX
overall

Summary
With 592 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,077.00, 33.8% of 2014 Acura MDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Acura MDX 4.67 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
56.9% of 2014 MDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Acura MDX stands out as a redesigned luxury crossover that aims to balance refinement with athletic ability. Acura describes its driving character as exacting and finely tuned, delivering the luxurious experience most owners want while still retaining the athleticism most owners need. That combination is a big part of its appeal: it is meant to feel polished without giving up the responsiveness buyers expect from an Acura.
Compared with the previous MDX, the 2014 model is presented as a more broadly appealing SUV. Acura says it may not look as exciting as the old MDX, but it is a better SUV in almost every respect, and it is not simply a stretched seven-passenger version of the smaller Acura RDX with fancy LED headlights. Owner feedback generally reinforces that appeal, with praise for luxury, comfort, performance, spaciousness, smooth ride, and fuel economy.
There are also a few caveats worth noting. Some owners have raised concerns about seat comfort and a decline in material quality compared with earlier models. Even so, the 2014 Acura MDX remains distinctive for buyers who want a family-friendly crossover that still emphasizes a carefully tuned driving experience.

I can't get over the handling. So responsive with a very tight turning radius. Lots of power, nearly 300 HP. The engine has the ability to shut down three of the six cylinders under certain steady state conditions so the highway mileage is usually around 27-28 mpg. Highly recommend this vehicle. I have owned about 70 cars thus far and would put this one in the top three. A few years back I wrote a book about 40 of the more interesting ones, titled Forty Cars That Owned Me. I'll have to add this one when I revise the book to bring it up to date.

Is the 2014 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Acura MDX earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its luxury, comfort, performance, spaciousness, smooth ride, and fuel economy. That lines up with the MDX’s role as a refined three-row luxury crossover that still keeps an athletic edge, so you get a family-friendly SUV that does not feel dull to drive.
With 27.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively while still finding attractive pricing.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable and trouble-free in everyday use, with praise centered on comfort, performance, spaciousness, smooth ride, and fuel economy. The expert evaluation also describes the MDX as finely tuned and expertly calibrated, which supports the sense that it is built to be a confident long-term companion.
The ownership picture is less clear on cost control, though, since the expert review notes that luxury-brand ownership costs are not especially low and that historical reliability assessments have not always lined up neatly. For used buyers, that means condition and maintenance history matter more than mileage alone.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Acura MDX?
At 57.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are comparing multiple examples at similar prices. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, interior wear, and any evidence that the vehicle’s luxury features and driver-assistance systems have been used and maintained properly.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base version is relatively light on technology beyond Bluetooth connectivity and music streaming, hands-free text messaging, a USB port, a reversing camera, and Jewel Eye LED headlights. The Technology Package adds keyless access, navigation with real-time traffic, a premium sound system, GPS-linked climate control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind spot information, and larger 19-inch wheels. The Technology and Entertainment Package adds rear-seat DVD entertainment with a 9-inch screen, wireless headphones, a remote control, a power outlet, and heated rear seats. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds a 16.2-inch widescreen display, premium perforated leather, ventilated front seats, auto-dimming side mirrors, remote engine start, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking.
- Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 makes 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, and it uses Variable Cylinder Management to help conserve fuel. A 6-speed automatic and front-wheel drive are standard, while Super Handling All-Wheel Drive is optional. The setup is tuned for strong, refined acceleration and responsive handling.
- Safety package: The Technology Package adds forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind spot information. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. Base versions are much lighter on driver-assistance equipment.
- Infotainment: Every MDX gets twin display screens, but the lower touchscreen is described as glare-prone and fingerprint-prone. The Technology Package adds navigation and AcuraLink real-time traffic, while the Technology and Entertainment Package adds a rear-seat DVD system with a 9-inch screen. The Advance and Entertainment Package upgrades to a 16.2-inch widescreen display.
- Fuel efficiency: The fully loaded test vehicle was rated at 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, for a combined 21 mpg.
Which 2014 Acura MDX trim should I buy?
The 2014 Acura MDX is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Technology Package, Technology and Entertainment Package, and Advance and Entertainment Package.
Here's the short version:
- base: This is the simplest way into the MDX, but it is also the most stripped-down on convenience and tech. You get the core luxury crossover experience, yet you miss the richer navigation, audio, and driver-assistance equipment that make the higher packages feel more complete.
- Technology Package: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds the features that most improve daily use: navigation, real-time traffic, premium audio, keyless access, and important safety tech like blind spot information and forward collision warning. If you want the most balanced mix of equipment and price, this is the trim to target.
- Technology and Entertainment Package: Choose this if you regularly carry passengers in the second row and want the rear-seat DVD system, wireless headphones, and extra comfort features. It makes the MDX feel more family-focused, but it is more about passenger entertainment than core driving value.
- Advance and Entertainment Package: This is the most fully equipped version, adding ventilated seats, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, collision mitigation braking, and the larger 16.2-inch display. It suits you best if you want the most advanced feature set and are willing to pay for it.
The safety-package trims add meaningful driver-assistance equipment, but the base version is notably lighter on those features.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Acura MDX?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.
- Deal availability: 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 585 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.58% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,038.11, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $12,032 sits slightly below last year's $13,308.
That price movement suggests the market has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and hold the vehicle for a while. For a future seller, the softer pricing means your upside is more about buying well and maintaining the vehicle carefully than expecting a quick rebound.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX safe?
The 2014 MDX gets a Good rating in both the moderate overlap frontal-impact test and the side-impact test from IIHS, and the front crash prevention rating is Advanced.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The Technology Package adds forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind spot information. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking.
There are some caveats to keep in mind: the lane departure warning system is described as hyper-active and sometimes inaccurate, and the adaptive cruise control can behave abruptly in traffic. Those systems are useful, but you should test them carefully on your own route before buying.
Should I buy a 2014 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.58% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesigned 2014 MDX is presented as a better SUV in almost every respect, with especially strong driving dynamics and a more broadly appealing layout.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned MDX with strong performance, high owner satisfaction, and a market that has softened enough to create some buying opportunities, the 2014 is a solid target. If you are especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-maintained examples and be selective about accident history and equipment level, since the right trim can make a big difference in how complete the SUV feels.
