This truck has most features you need! Great looks & styling, chromed steel wheels, spray on bed liner, V8 4.3L engine, XM radio, OnStar, and a top of the line sound system. The truck is comfortable for commuting to work, hauling a load, pulling a trailer, or taking you hunting or fishing. This truck is so reliable that the only things we've done are the standard maintenance items: oil changes, tire rotations, weekly washings, regular waxings, and cleaning out the interior on a regular basis.

I love the truck, perfect for work, wish I would have gotten the v8 over the 4.3 v6. The gas mileage is not as good as I would expect for a 6 cylinder. Some small issues plagued the truck but was able to finally get them all fixed prior to the warranty going out.

I have had all types of trucks.........Ford, Dodge, Chevy and GM. This Chevy has a great engine and good towing capacity. Mine has the towing package and the towing mode setting on the transmission that gets a lot of use. I think it sets the shift points higher. I have the long bed.........my opinion is that if youre going to buy a truck, get the whole truck. I have never been a fan of short beds because we use our truck like a truck not a car. I am not brand loyal - I buy the best deal I can find. They all do well if you take care of them. Yes, even Dodge has come a long way in the past 10 years. The Silverado is probably the simplest to work on (most mechanics will agree). This also reduces ownership costs. The only thing I have against GM / Chevy is I still have a strong resentment of them taking the bailout money from Obama.

After an extensive redesign in 2007, the Chevy Silverado 1500 received only minor updates for 2008, including a revised instrument panel with either two-tone or woodgrain accents (depending on the trim) and larger, more ergonomically positioned controls. As in the previous year, the half-ton 2008 Silverado 1500 sits on a wider, full-size truck platform designed for improved handling and a smoother ride. It also sports the more rugged exterior design introduced in 2007, as well as the updated interior that offers a number of configuration options.

The 2008 Silverado 1500 comes with a choice of six engines, from the standard 195-horsepower, 4.3-liter V6 to a range of optional V8 engines, including 4.8-liter, 5.3-liter, and 6.0-liter V8s, and either standard gasoline or FlexFuel options. The 5.3-liter and 6.0-liter V8s come equipped with an Active Fuel Management system that shuts down four of the eight cylinders at cruising speeds to conserve fuel. All engines link to a Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission designed for smooth, quiet shifting. The transmission comes equipped with a Tow/Haul mode.

Drivers have more than three dozen trim styles from which to choose, including WT (Work Truck), LS, LT, and LTZ trim levels, and regular, extended, and crew cab lengths. Extended-cab trims come equipped with rear doors that open 170 degrees for easy accessibility. The StabiliTrak electronic stability control system comes standard on crew cab trims and can be selected as an option on some extended-cab trims. The StabiliTrak system improves safety by applying individual brakes when necessary to enhance control and reduce the chance of a rollover.

Drivers also can opt for a variety of suspensions, including a Handling/Trailering suspension, which comes standard on the LT and LTZ trims, and an off-road suspension, optional on the same trims. An optional high-performance suspension is available for the LTZ trim only. In addition, a Z71 Off Road Package, available as an option on LT and LTZ trims, includes high-pressure gas-charged shocks for a better ride on rough terrain, 17-inch off-road/on-road tires, a high-capacity air cleaner, off-road jounce bumpers, and an automatic locking rear differential to prevent rear-wheel slippage.

Standard features throughout the line include a tire-pressure monitor, two auxiliary power outlets, OnStar, a three-month XM radio trial, and a Driver Information Center that displays powertrain, security, and chassis messages. Beyond that, features are extensive and can include power windows, remote keyless entry, power-adjustable front seats, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, and heated leather front seats, depending on the trim.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 gets positive marks from drivers and reviewers for its acceleration, smooth ride, handling, quietness, fuel economy, and value. Some note that the rear seat in the extended and crew cab trimes can be tight, and that cargo space is limited. And some wish the Silverado came with a larger gas tank (the gas tank holds 26 gallons). Features such as OnStar and XM satellite radio are especially popular with drivers. Overall, the Chevy Silverado compares well to the competition and gets good overall marks from drivers and reviewers.
