Overview
Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the 1983 Monte Carlo was the return of the SuperSport. The 1983 Monte Carlo SS was the first to wear that badge since the 76 Chevy Nova. The SS was given styling to reflect the classic SuperSports of the past, including sleek front fascia and a rear spoiler. Still a rear-wheel drive, the SS wasn’t the best car for snow driving, but its 305-ci HO V8 pumped out 180 horses for the 4,714 people lucky enough to own one.
The sport coupe sold slightly fewer cars as a result: only 91,605 were produced after 92,392 were sold in 1982. The base engine remained a 229-ci V6 rated at 110 horsepower, with an optional 262-ci V6 diesel engine available, rated at a paltry 85 horses.
The V8 model had a 305-ci standard engine rated at 150 horsepower, with an optional 250-ci V8 diesel rated at 105 horsepower.

Wasn't as fast as I remembered but since it was my grandfather's car for sentimental reasons I wish I still had it. My Uncle has it now hopefully one day I will get it back! I know Grandpa's spirit is still with that car!

other than it now being bolted together right it was a bad ass car. Without a doubt the best sounding car I have ever hear. When I first heard it I handed over $600 and said I'll take it. handling was near lethal, and had a sunroof with no glass, so not exactly my most practical choice. impulse buy out of lust, but it worked out in the end

This was the first year the SS came back to the Monte Carlo. It had alot of bugs that needed to be worked out.

I had a 1983 v6 diesel and got 35 miles to the gallon. It was a little slow out of the gate but a real solid cruiser. I bought this car used in 1987 for 3000.00 and it had 18000 miles. Got it cheap because no one else would buy it. Drove it for 5 years and 136000 miles and always drove like a beast. Good solid car.
