Sales of the 1985 Monte Carlo remained high, with a larger percentage opting for the powerful SS model with its standard 305-ci HO V8 rated at 180 horsepower. Over 10,000 more of the SS’s were sold in 1985; 35,484 of the muscle car-like coupe were sold. The total sport coupe production dipped a little as a result, down to 82,573.
The power of the base engine was upped, with a new 262-ci V6 rated at 130 horsepower as the standard engine. The standard V8 on the sports coupe remained a 305-ci rated at 150 horsepower.
1985 also featured the return of the T-top and the demise of the diesel engine.

(31 reviews)this car is lots of fun to drive, it looks awesome and always has everyone turning thier heads. has good power with the 305 HO but i think it could use more. hasnt cost much to work on or drive
I love this car. I have owned it since 1993. It has a built 4.3 liter v6 that puts out about 300 hp. The trans is a beefed-up 700r4. It has a Detroit Truetrac differential with 3.73 gears. It is alot of fun, and it sounds like a built v8 when it is running. The cam is the largest grind that Comp Cams offers for the 4.3, and it has a great lope at idle. I wouldn't trade this car for the world. Future plans include headers, suspension improvements and a fresh paint job.
Runs and drives great, the 305 can stay until I'm ready ($$$) for an LSx swap. The body is in great shape, and I got it for a hell of a price, and even drove it home. You cant beat that for a project. A few minor things and this can be a DD.
I love this car more than anything in the world. Performance, build, appearance, cost and fun factor are all amazing with this car. I would never buy a different car except for a new monte carlo. I love driving it.
Good solid reliable old school car not your modern rubbish
