Overview

1976 marked the launch of the Ford F-150, a new entry in Ford's popular F-series line of trucks. This rugged new half-ton pickup quickly found its market; it accounted for one-third of F-series sales in its first year, and took off from there.
A workhorse designed to fill the niche between the F-100 and F-200, the 76 Ford F-150 proved to be as popular with off-roaders as with farmers and ranchers. Offered in Custom, Sport, Ranger, and Ranger XLT trims, the truck came off the line with a choice of FE, 385, and Windsor V-8 engines, as well as a straight-6. A styleside supercab option offered exceptionally roomy seating, and a 4-door crewcab and a 2-door cab were also available.
The 1976 F150 has turned out to be a tuner's delight. Four-wheeling fans love it for its toughness, its reliability, and its burly, boxy style. You won't find the Lariat trim in this year's model (that trimline wasn't introduced until 1978), but the many configurations available in both styleside and flareside (not to mention the variety of bed and tonneau options) offer some great choices to anyone looking for a vintage muscle truck.

I like the older trucks. They are a lot more stylish from the new trucks today. You are starting to see more and more and more of these types of trucks being restored every day. I like to see that!

My wifes grandpa bought this truck new in 1977. It was the last '76 on the lot. When i purchased the truck from him last spring, it had a mere 42,000 miles on it. since the truck had been sitting in a barn for the majority of the 15 years leading up to the time i purchased the truck, it quickly developed some leaks... namely from the engine and transmission. i have replaced the headers, mufflers, water pump, battery, plugs, wires, air filter, u-joints, front tires, and more. in addition to this, ive had to add a quart of oil a week for the last 10 months or so. i really need to do a complete rebuild, but until that time, the truck still runs. and for me, thats all that matters... having a truck that starts EVERY time. even though this truck is only 2wd, it took me through a rough winter of snow removal better than most 4wd couldve. this truck can haul pretty much anything. its only a 1/2 ton truck, but ive had around 3500 pounds in the bed before. i wouldnt hesitate to buy a truck like this again. its not the greatest truck in the world, but it works, and thats what matters most.

The original 360 had no power. once swiched out with a 428 its awesome. The breaks can be temperamental it handles well but is scary for someone whose never driven it at high speeds . the build quality is great. its a sharp looking truck. the milage sucks. i get 8-12 miles per gallon. its easy to work on and a blast to drive.
