Ford aims to maintain its hold on bestselling truck status by making only minor changes to the 1979 F-150.
Americans do love pickups and, based on last year’s sales figures, their favorite is Ford. Chevrolet, GMC, and Dodge offer strong competitors, but it was the 1978 F-Series that earned the title of best-selling truck.
Ford offers the F-Series in several grades ranging from the F-100 to the heavy-duty F-350, but we’re focusing on the most popular version—the F-150. For 1979, the truck carries over largely unchanged, though eagle-eyed observers will notice that square headlights are now standard across the lineup. Trim levels include the Custom, Ranger, Ranger XLT, and the Ranger Lariat, all available with a selection of six- and eight-cylinder engines, a rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel-drive (4WD) drivetrain, Regular Cab or SuperCab body styles, and a choice of cargo beds.
Shoppers particularly fond of the current generation F-150 may want to visit a dealership sooner than later, as a completely redesigned truck is set to debut for the 1980 model year.

(43 reviews)The 73-79 Ford trucks were my first trucks. I'm restoring a 79 Supercab 4x4 now...I love the looks, 4x4 ability, and ease of repairs to these trucks..They just have a great look
love the huge v8, four wheel drive, and short wheel base. this truck has gotten me places i dont need to be. i wouldnt trade it for the world. its an absolute blast to own and to drive. buy one
Build like a tank. I off road it five to ten times a year and it has yet to leave me stranded. From hill climbs to having it hood deep in mud it just keeps coming back for more. Its a great truck.
Its all original, perfect running condition. Need minor body work.
I own one of these trucks. It is a short bed stepside that is Lifted 4in in the suspension and 3in in the body. This truck has been the most reliable truck that I have ever owned. I have had some problems with it but nothing major. I have restored it from the frame up. Great truck over all.
