Scout Terra Pricing, Specs, and Release Date

Electric trucks were still a novelty until pretty recently, but suddenly, they seem to abound. And now, there’s a new battery-electric pickup on the market–or at least, there soon will be. The Scout Terra is currently classified as a concept vehicle, but Scout Motors clarifies that with the modifier “production-intent.” Here’s what we know so far.

Scout Terra Preview - summary

What’s New for the Scout Terra

The Scout Terra is a brand-new truck from a brand-new automaker. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because it is a revival of sorts, leveraging the old Scout nameplate from International Harvester. That farm-bred, highly capable series of machines offers a strong legacy to serve as the foundation for this new EV.

Design

The Terran’s front end is immediately distinguished by the prominent silver skid plate and distinctive lighting signature. The latter features two slim light bars delineating the top and bottom edges of the rectangular “grille,” or “mask,” which is blacked out in a nod to the truck’s predecessors. It’s bisected on the sides by slim daytime running lights (DRLs) and appears to sport an illuminated “Scout” script logo as well. The truck’s rear lighting signature is similar, though executed in red, with abbreviated lights around the sides appearing to extend the taillights to the rear quarters.

Powertrain

The Terra is designed for rugged functionality, with body-on-frame architecture and a solid rear axle. But that does not mean it’s going to be slow. Scout currently estimates the Terra’s power output at close to 1,000 lb-ft of torque, which the automaker says will allow the truck to go from zero to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. The pure battery-electric version is expected to have a range of about 350 miles. An extended-range variant, which will come equipped with a gas-powered generator, should be able to travel over 500 miles on a single charge.

The Scout Terra will use the North American Charging Standard (NACS), the same one in use by Tesla. Scout says the truck will have up to 350-kilowatt charging capability and will offer bi-drectional charging as well.

Two electric motors, one on each axle, will make up a four-wheel-drive (4WD) system for the Terra. Towing capacity should crest 10,000 pounds, while payload should near 2,000 pounds. Front and rear mechanical lockers and a front stabilizer-bar disconnect further boost the truck’s capability.

Interior

The Terra will feature a 5.5-foot bed in addition to the front-trunk, or “frunk,” commonly seen in EVs. Scout plans to equip the frunk with both a 120-volt and a USB-C outlet, while the bed will boast two 120-volt outlets and one 240-volt outlet. Scout promises multiple roof options, including a glass roof with a powered shade.

Technology

The Scout Terra is designed to offer remote diagnostics and over-the-air (OTA) updates for maximum owner convenience. Further user-friendly choices include the presence of buttons and knobs. We have no doubt that the infotainment and driver-information screens–or screen–will impress, as they have in so many EVs, but we’re thrilled to hear that Scout has opted to include hard controls as well.

Safety

Scout Motors has not yet shared information about advanced driver-assistance or other safety systems, which is perfectly normal for a vehicle in the concept stage. It’s a pretty safe bet that the company will aim to make the Terra competitive with other electric trucks on the market when it debuts, and, further, that Scout will likely leverage its connection with the Volkswagen Group to provide cost-effective modern safety tech.

Pricing and Release Date

As of this writing, the Scout Terra is scheduled to enter production in 2027 at a plant based in Columbia, South Carolina. The automaker states that retail prices will start below $60,000 and notes that available incentives should drop its price “as low as $51,500.” Though production is still a few years away, reservations are available on Scout’s website now for a $100 fee, which is fully refundable.
