What’s New for the 2026 Polestar 5
The Polestar 5 is the automaker’s fifth EV and its first electric grand-touring car. The 5 offers two powertrain options with up to 884 horsepower, a 350-mile-plus driving range, and striking styling.
Design
The 5 is easily one of Polestar’s most eye-catching vehicles. It lacks a rear window, giving it a unique look with a clean rear design. That said, it retains some Volvo-inspired styling elements, including its vertical LED taillights and revised Thor’s hammer LED daytime running lights (DRLs). The car is otherwise almost completely unique, sporting a look unlike anything else in Polestar's or Volvo’s catalogs.
Powertrain
Polestar hasn’t detailed US specs for the car yet, but it’s expected to offer two dual-motor powertrain options. The entry-level setup should offer 748 horsepower, while the Polestar 5 Performance should deliver up to 884 horsepower. The 5 features a rear-motor disconnect function that allows the driver to shut down power to the rear wheels to improve range and efficiency. Polestar quotes a zero-to-60-mph time of just over three seconds for the Performance model and under four seconds for the standard configuration. The automaker also claims a charging time of 22 minutes to recover from 10 to 80 percent on a DC fast charger.

Interior
Like other Polestar models, the 5 has a minimalist interior design with clean lines and little clutter. It features premium recycled materials that is almost indistinguishable from real leather, and the Recaro-designed front seats should offer excellent support and ergonomics. The Polestar 5 is a four-seater, though its dramatic sloped roof may cut into rear headroom, and cargo space is limited at 13 cubic feet in the back and two cubic feet in the frunk.
Technology
Polestar equips a 14.5-inch touchscreen and a small digital gauge cluster. The system runs the automaker’s latest infotainment software, powered by Android Automotive OS, and the car comes with a 10-speaker stereo. A 21-speaker Bowers and Wilkins stereo is available.
Safety
We don’t have all the details on the Polestar 5’s safety equipment, but it will likely offer features similar to its predecessors. That would mean standard equipment that includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and a hands-free highway-driving assistance system. Polestar vehicles are expensive and produced in relatively low volumes, so they aren’t regularly crash-tested like more mainstream vehicle models.

Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, pricing for the 2026 Polestar 5 is not available. It’s expected to start at around $140,000 and could reach $160,000 or more with options and trim upgrades.
