Volkswagen certified pre-owned vehicles (CPO) must be from within the last 7 model years and have fewer than 72,000 or 75,000 miles, depending on the model. In order to be certified, the vehicle must:
• Pass a 100-point inspection that includes a mechanical examination, road test, and cosmetic appearance check • Have all scheduled and recommended maintenance work performed using only genuine Volkswagen parts • Have any open recalls addressed • Be free of major collision or repair work and have a clean Carfax vehicle history report
Volkswagen also offers diesel vehicles in its certified preowned program, despite the buy-back and controversy surrounding them. TDI (diesel) models that are sold under the CPO program receive specific warranty coverage, as well as an additional emissions warranty at no extra cost to the buyer.
Warranty
Volkswagen offers what it calls a “model specific” warranty for CPO vehicles. Coverage varies based on the age and type of vehicle:
• Model year 2018 and newer vehicles come with a 1-year or 12,000-mile comprehensive limited warranty • Model year 2017 and newer gas, hybrid, and electric vehicles come with a 2-year or 24,000-mile comprehensive limited warranty • Model year 2016 and earlier TDI (diesel) vehicles come with a 2-year/unlimited-mile comprehensive limited warranty
It’s important to note that VW doesn’t call out additional powertrain coverage for its CPO vehicles, but the included bumper-to-bumper warranty is more generous than other manufacturers’ offerings. Coverage begins when the vehicle’s original factory warranty expires or when the CPO vehicle is sold, whichever occurs later. Volkswagen requires a $50 deductible per covered repair under all of its warranties. Diesel vehicles also carry an extended emissions systems warranty at no additional cost.

Volkswagen works with third-party companies to offer 24/7 roadside service. Coverage runs for two years on every certified pre-owned Volkswagen vehicle. The program includes:
