What’s New for the 2026 Volvo ES90
The ES90 is an all-new car for the 2026 model year, and it will arrive with more than 400 miles of range in some configurations. Volvo promises fast charging, an exceedingly aerodynamic shape, and the latest technology features, including several of the automaker’s advanced sensors and monitoring software.
Design
Volvo classifies the ES90 as a large electric sedan, though it’s considerably smaller than the EX90 SUV. That said, it’s also larger than the gas S90 sedan, offering a 2-inch longer wheelbase and a taller overall height. While it’s a new design for Volvo, the ES90 retains some of the brand’s signature styling elements, including the “Thor’s Hammer” LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and unique, “C”-shaped taillights.
Powertrain
Volvo will offer two powertrain options for the 2026 ES90, starting with a single-motor variant with 329 horsepower. The available dual-motor model makes 442 horsepower, and the top Twin Motor Performance model offers 670 horsepower. Volvo quotes a zero-60-mph time of just 3.9 seconds for the range-topping model. The car sports a drag coefficient of just 0.25, making it the most aerodynamic vehicle Volvo has ever built. The EPA has not yet provided range estimates for the car, but Volvo has released European WLTP range estimates, which tend to be more generous than those from the American agency. On the Euro scale, the ES90 returns more than 400 miles of range in its most efficient format, but we anticipate that the car will likely have less impressive numbers by EPA standards.
Interior
The ES90’s interior is immediately recognizable as a Volvo cabin, and it’s very similar to other recent EV releases from the company. There are few physical controls, with nearly all vehicle interactions happening on the large central touchscreen. Volvo also uses recycled and sustainable materials throughout the cabin, though they are high-quality and difficult to discern from traditional luxury finishes.
Technology
A 14.5-inch touchscreen comes standard on the 2025 ES90, along with a 9-inch digital gauge cluster mounted behind the steering wheel. The system offers Google Built-In, with some Play Store features, Google Assistant, and more.
Safety
As of the time of this writing, the 2026 Volvo ES90 is too early in its production cycle to have been crash-tested in the United States. The automaker’s advanced driver-assistance tech and structural improvements should help the car score quite well, however. It features door-opening alerts that detect cyclists, pedestrians, and vehicles, and the interior sensors are delicate enough to detect small movements, like a breathing baby left in the back seat. Volvo fits seven cameras, five radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and a LiDAR system.
Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, pricing for the 2026 Volvo ES90 has not been released. Most expect it to start at around $70,000, with top trims climbing into the mid-$80,000 range. Ordering is open in Europe, and US availability is expected later in 2025.
