What’s New for the 2026 Rivian R1T
The Rivian R1T was significantly refreshed in 2025, so there are few updates for 2026. The R1T now features a North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging port, which makes it compatible with Tesla’s Supercharger network. The top-tier Quad trim also has two new party tricks—a Rivian Adventure Department (RAD) Tuner Mode that enables the driver to save customized driving modes, and a Kick Turn feature that spins the wheels in opposite directions to rotate the truck in place.
Design
The R1T has plenty of road presence without the macho posturing that characterizes most traditional pickup trucks. It’s large but well-proportioned, and avoids looking awkward or unwieldy. Wheel choices range from 20 to 22 inches, elegant LED light bars span the headlights and taillights for a modern and appropriately high-tech look for an EV, and delightfully, Rivian doesn’t shy away from bright, bold color choices. If the lack of seating and storage configurations is a turnoff, Rivian has incorporated a ton of clever and unique features. The Gear Tunnel, for example, is a storage compartment located just above the floor, where the back of the cab meets the front of the bed. Accessible from both the passenger's and the driver's side, it can accommodate narrow objects nearly as long as the width of the truck, or be fitted with optional accessories, such as a pull-out kitchen console for camping. Though it’s been around since the R1T’s debut, it’s arguably one of the most innovative new truck features in years. The bed also features an air compressor and a 120-volt outlet built into the walls.
Powertrain
For all of the R1T’s simplicity in terms of body style options—or lack thereof—the powertrain options are impressive, with four-wheel drive (4WD) standard across the lineup and great all-electric range as one of the brand’s signature characteristics. The base Dual-Motor trim makes 533 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque, and is rated for 270 miles. The Dual gets 665 hp, 829 lb-ft, and 329 or 420 miles of range, depending on the battery. The Tri-Motor version clocks in at 850 hp, 1,103 lb-ft, and a range of 371 to 405 miles depending on the battery mode. Finally, the Quad Motor model boasts 1,025 hp, 1,198 lb-ft, and a range between 375 and 400 miles depending on the battery mode. Off-road, the R1T is as talented as nearly any traditional gas-powered SUV configured for the trail, with a capable 4WD system, an adjustable suspension system, 15 inches of ground clearance, and an impressive three-foot wading depth. The R1T can also tow up to 11,000 pounds, but that cuts the range by an estimated 50%.

Interior
The R1T seats five in a clean, modern, minimalist cabin with plenty of storage and tech features. Both rows are comfortable, supportive, and adult-friendly. Standard features include synthetic leather upholstery, heated seats in both rows, and ventilated front seats. Options include a premium 16-speaker audio system, a removable Bluetooth speaker, and a power-retractable tonneau cover for the bed.
Technology
The R1T features a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, a 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and a 6.8-inch rear touchscreen. Though Amazon Alexa drives the virtual assistant system, Rivian does not engage with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, so that may be a sticking point for some shoppers. The phones will connect for calls, music, and the like, but they won’t be mirrored on the display and must be navigated through Rivian’s own system. Other standard tech features include wireless charging and a phone-based key system.
Safety
The 2026 R1T features a surround-view camera system, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and front and rear parking sensors. It’s available with a semi-automated highway-assist system. The 2026 Rivian R1T boasts a 2025 Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), with two top Good crash-test ratings and a second-best Acceptable rating in the updated moderate overlap front test. It hadn't been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at the time of writing.
