by Chris Teague

Polestar’s US lineup is growing with the addition of the Polestar 3 crossover and Polestar 4 sedan. The 2026 Polestar 4 is a unique vehicle here, as it lacks a rear window and instead relies on a camera-based rearview mirror. Additionally, its funky, futuristic styling might not be so appealing for every buyer.

2025 Polestar 4 Preview - summary

What’s New for the 2026 Polestar 4

A coupe-style SUV, the Polestar 4 is an all-new model for the EV-exclusive brand. While it is expected to arrive in late 2025, Polestar will market the 4 as a 2026-model-year vehicle.

Design

The Polestar 4 is easily the most unique-looking vehicle from the brand. It sports some Volvo-inspired styling elements, including its front end and daytime running lights (DRLs), but its sporty shape and lack of a rear window set it apart from the more mainstream Volvo offerings. Though the 4 looks like a sedan, Polestar classes it as a sporty crossover coupe, but its size and shape lean more toward the car end of that spectrum.

Powertrain

Buyers have two powertrain choices with the 2026 Polestar 4. The base configuration uses a single electric motor making 272 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. A dual-motor configuration is available, making 544 horsepower and 505 pound-feet of torque. Polestar quotes a 3.7-second zero-60-mph time for the dual-motor variant, making it the quickest vehicle in the automaker’s catalog. At the same time, the 4 offers a smooth ride, composed handling, and confidence-inspiring braking and steering. The driving range reaches 300 miles for the single-motor model and 272 miles for the dual-motor configuration.

2025 Polestar 4 Preview - interior

Interior

The Polestar 4 offers seating for five people, though the back seat’s center portion makes it less comfortable to seat three across. Knit upholstery comes standard, and some models are available with synthetic or Nappa leather. The available Plus Pack also adds power-reclining rear seats.

Technology

A 15.4-inch touchscreen and 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster come standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, Google Built-in, eight speakers, ambient interior lighting, and more. The Google-based infotainment system comes with some Play Store features, Google Assistant, and Google Maps. While the screen is large and crisp, the system can feel overwhelming and somewhat confusing at times.

Safety

Neither major US vehicle safety testing organization has had a chance to crash-test the brand-new Polestar 4 as of this writing. That said, it comes with a good number of driver-assistance features, including blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, front cross-traffic alert, driver-attention warning, automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, and cyclist and pedestrian detection. A semi-automated highway-driving assistance system is available.
