Once Volvo’s performance division, Polestar split off as an independent brand a while back and is now deep into developing new electric models. The sleek Polestar 2 electric luxury car blurs the line between sedans and crossovers, offering a large rear hatch and slightly elevated ride height.

What’s New for the 2025 Polestar 2
Polestar cut the base rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variants for 2025, leaving the dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) models in place. The remaining models received more range, improved power output, and a longer list of standard features.
Design
While it sports some Volvo-derived exterior styling elements, the 2 is a unique vehicle that doesn’t lock step with the mothership’s design. It features Volvo’s signature Thor’s Hammer LED daytime running lights (DRLs) with a vaguely familiar front end and grille shape. The sides are gently sculpted, giving the car more shape, and the rear features a taillight design similar to that of Volvo’s sedans, the S60 and S90.
Powertrain
Polestar discontinued the entry-level single-motor variants for 2025, leaving a dual-motor AWD model as the only option. It sees a combined 476 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque, which reaches all four wheels through a single-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration is fierce, but adding the available Performance Pack makes it downright fast, with a zero-60-mph time of around four seconds. At the same time, the standard AWD and competent handling make the Polestar 2 an excellent electric vehicle (EV) for poor weather conditions.

Interior
The Polestar 2 features a clean, modern interior with nice materials and an eye-catching look. Vegan leather upholstery comes standard, along with heated front and rear seats and a heated steering wheel. Responsibly sourced Nappa leather upholstery is available, and some models get ventilated front seats.
Technology
An 11.2-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster come standard. The system features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, a Harman Kardon stereo, Bluetooth, and more. Polestar’s infotainment system runs on Google Built-In, which brings additional features like Google Maps, Assistant, and some Play Store options. The interface is otherwise easy to use, and the display has enough processing power to make it snappy and responsive.
Safety
The 2025 Polestar 2 hasn’t been fully crash-tested yet, but it earned four out of five stars overall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Standard features include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure alert, parking sensors, driver-attention warnings, traffic-sign recognition, automatic high beams, a surround-view camera, a semi-automated highway-driving assistance system, pedestrian and cyclist detection, and more.

Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, the 2025 Polestar 2 Long-Range Dual-Motor with Performance Pack starts at $64,800. While that’s far from cheap, the good news is that most of the best features come standard, with only an upholstery upgrade and premium color options costing extra.
