2025 Nissan Armada Preview - intro

What’s New for the 2025 Nissan Armada?

Nissan is introducing two new trims to kick off this third generation of the Armada. The Armada PRO-4X brings new levels of off-road capability to the lineup, while the Platinum Reserve is a new luxury grade that looks like it’s aiming for Infiniti levels of comfort. The Armada also gets a new standard powertrain, new available premium audio system, and the latest version of Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist system.

Design

The new Armada bears a strong resemblance to the new Infiniti QX80, which was also redesigned for 2025, with its slickly hidden front windshield wiper and its bold proportions. The two cousins’ front fasciae are distinctly different, though, with the Nissan’s leaning truckier and more utilitarian. Even on the new Platinum Reserve trim, the strong lines of the daytime running lights and the firm horizontals of the grille convey a no-nonsense impression. On the new Armada PRO-4X, this is emphasized with a visible front skid plate and black plastic cladding outlining the round wheel arches. The PRO-4X actually gets a dedicated front fascia design, shaped to increase its approach angle for improved off-road capability. And, naturally, its 20-inch wheels come wrapped in all-terrain tires. 18-inch wheels are standard on the 2025 Armada, though the Platinum Reserve gets 22-inch wheels by default. A two-tone paint job available on Platinum, PRO-4X, and Platinum Reserve trims allows for a Super Black upper body and roof with certain exterior paint choices.

Powertrain

The 2025 Armada comes standard with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 which makes 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission is also standard, replacing the old seven-speed, and offers drivers the opportunity to manage gears with paddle shifters if they prefer. The 2025 Armada’s electric power steering features a quicker ratio than its predecessor.

Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard, except on the PRO-4X, which is only offered with Nissan's four-wheel-drive (4WD) system. Intelligent 4WD is available as an extra-cost upgrade on every other trim.

The Armada PRO-4X also gets an electronic locking differential, Hill-Descent control, and an Adaptive Electronic Air Suspension, which allows it up to 9.6 inches of ground clearance. The Armada Platinum Reserve gets the air suspension as well, though here, it is meant for comfort rather than capability. Rounding out the PRO-4X’s off-road-oriented features is a set of eight selectable drive modes.

Interior

Three interior color schemes are available for the 2025 Armada: Charcoal, Chestnut, and Almond. High-end features such as 64-color ambient lighting, quilted leather, and open-pore wood trim are available, and tri-zone automatic climate control is standard.

While the less luxurious trims come with seating for eight, Platinum and Platinum Reserve Armadas replace the second-row bench seat with two captain’s chairs, for a total of seven seats. Captain’s chairs are also available on the Armada SL, and bench seats are available on the Platinum grades, but both SV and PRO-4X are limited to the eight-passenger configuration. Power-adjustable, leatherette-trimmed front seats come standard, and the Armada switches to genuine leather and adds further adjustability for Platinum, PRO-4X, and Platinum Reserve.

Heated front seats are standard on all but the base trim. Front-seat ventilation and second-row heated seats are available for PRO-4X and standard for both Platinum trims, and the Platinum Reserve even gets massaging front seats. Heated or cooled seats are not available in the third row, but Nissan does equip power one-touch folding for all but the base trim.

A dual panoramic moonroof is standard on the Platinum trims and available on the PRO-4X. With the moonroof, head room clocks in at 40.8 inches front, 37.8 middle, and 36.2 rear. Without the moonroof, the first and second rows get 41.6 and 40.0 inches of head room respectively (the third row stays at 36.2)

Technology

The 2025 Armada comes standard with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen running NissanConnect and a 12.3-inch driver information display. These are replaced with dual 14.3-inch displays in the three higher trims. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and all but the base Armada SV get popular features like Google built-in, Amazon Alexa Built-In, Nissan’s Door-to-Door navigation system, and 4G Wi-Fi hotspot capability.

A six-speaker sound system comes standard, but for 2025, Nissan has introduced a 12-speaker Klipsch Premium Audio System. We were pleasantly surprised to see that this sound system is standard equipment on all but the base trim, not locked into Platinum trims as we might have expected.

Safety

The 2025 Armada SV comes standard with Nissan ProPILOT Assist, which essentially pairs adaptive cruise control with lane-centering steering-assist. Higher grades come with ProPILOT Assist 1.1, which uses those trims’ standard navigation to account for curves and intersections in helping to manage the vehicle’s speed. The big safety news for 2025 is ProPILOT Assist 2.1, newly available on the Armada. This latest iteration provides single-lane hands-free highway-driving assistance on a specific network of roads.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is also standard for 2025, bringing a host of advanced driver-assistance features including blind-spot warning and Intelligent Blind-Spot Intervention, lane-departure warning and Intelligent Lane Intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and Intelligent Forward Collision Warning. Additionally, every 2025 Armada comes with traffic-sign recognition, rear-door alert, driver-attention monitoring, and seatbelt reminder for all three rows.

A 3D Around View Monitor is standard on the three higher trims, and Invisible Hood View and Front Wide View are standard starting with the SV. These features are likely to be especially useful for off-roading applications, allowing for better visibility of the trail ahead.
