What’s New for the 2025 Mazda CX-90

The CX-90 was an all-new vehicle for the 2024 model year as a “leveled-up” replacement for the CX-9. For its sophomore year, the trims and features have been shaken up a bit, dropping the Preferred Plus and Turbo S trims and adding the Premium Sport trim.

Design

The CX-90 features a clean, contemporary design with an upright grille flanked by slim headlights. The Select and Preferred trims feature 19-inch alloy wheels, and all other trims feature 21-inch wheels.

Powertrain

The 2025 CX-90 comes equipped with a turbocharged six-cylinder engine in a 48-volt mild-hybrid setup. In most trims, it produces 280 horsepower. In the top trim, it makes 319 horsepower with regular gas and 340 horsepower with premium fuel. Power is routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission to standard all-wheel drive (AWD).

EPA estimates for fuel economy are 24 mpg city, 28 highway, and 25 combined. The more powerful version returns nearly the same fuel economy but drops to 23 mpg in the city.

Interior

The base Select trim comes with synthetic leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and tri-zone climate control. Upgraded trims come with features such as leather and premium Nappa leather upholstery, heated front seats, heated second-row seats, and a heated steering wheel.

The CX-90 is available in six-, seven-, and eight-seat versions, thanks to two-seat and three-seat second and third rows. The six-seat version has the most cargo space, spanning 75.2 cubic feet with all seats folded, 40.1 cubic feet with the second row in use, and 15.9 cubic feet behind the third row. This space is accessed via a standard power liftgate or available hands-free power liftgate.

Technology

Every trim gets a 10.25-inch infotainment display. It’s a partial touchscreen, in that you can use it as a touchscreen for the standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but every other function on the screen requires using the rotary dial in the center console. The base Select trim comes with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while every other trim can connect to these services wirelessly.

Safety

Standard driver-assistance features on the CX-90 include automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, rain-sensing wipers, automatic high beams, driver-attention monitoring, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Available safety tech includes reverse automatic emergency braking, a 360-degree parking camera system, traffic-sign recognition, and a head-up display.
