What’s New for the 2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD
GMC made a number of improvements to the Sierra 2500 for the 2025 model year, including adaptive cruise control for the AT4 and Denali trims, available parking sensors for lower trims, and a standard trailer brake controller system for all models.
Design
The Sierra HD is an imposing truck, with an upright front end, a large grille, and slab-shaped sides. Some models feature orange towing lights and tow hooks up front, and the automaker employed tasteful graphics and badges for some trims.
Powertrain
GMC offers two engines for the 2025 Sierra 2500HD. The base engine is a 6.6-liter gas V6, making 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. The available diesel produces 470 horsepower and a whopping 975 pound-feet of torque. Both engines pair with a 10-speed Allison heavy-duty transmission and either rear- or four-wheel drive (RWD or 4WD). It’s important to note that we’re talking about a beefy heavy-duty truck here, so the powertrain’s configuration is aimed at towing and payload numbers instead of acceleration. That said, both of the Sierra HD’s available engines offer lively acceleration and power.

Interior
Vinyl upholstery comes standard, but higher trims add cloth and genuine leather. Other available features include heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, wood trim, a sliding rear window, and more. The Sierra 1500 also comes in three cab configurations, making it easy to find the interior that best fits the buyer’s needs.
Technology
A 7-inch touchscreen comes standard, but higher trims get an 8- or 13.4-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, while the larger display comes with Google built-in, giving it a range of upgraded features that include Google Play Store, Google Assistant, Maps, and more. Available tech features include a Bose audio system, a head-up display, split-screen navigation, and SiriusXM radio. GMC’s infotainment system is one of the easier-to-use interfaces on the market, offering responsive navigation, simple menu structures, and a high-resolution display.
Safety
GMC equips a rearview camera, forward-collision warnings, a hitch-guidance system, lane-departure warning, GM's Teen Driver mode, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), OnStar, and automatic emergency braking. Available safety features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, a bed-view camera system, trailer blind-spot coverage, and a trailer tire-pressure monitoring system. The Sierra HD is one of the more well-equipped trucks for safety equipment on the market today.

Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, the 2025 GMC Sierra 2500 HD starts at $48,495, which includes a $2,195 destination fee. The top Denali Ultimate trim easily crests the $100,000 mark with options, but GMC offers discounts and incentives in many regions across the country. The truck is on sale now.
