Americans love their SUVs, which is why we have so many performance-oriented family haulers roaming our streets. The BMW XM is one of the more powerful models on sale, but its wild styling has limited its appeal, and its sky-high price tag hasn’t helped much, either.

What’s New for the 2025 BMW XM
The only update for 2025 was the introduction of a new highway driving-assistance system, but changes in 2024 were more impactful. BMW released an even more powerful Label variant that year, which boosted horsepower to 738 and reduced the zero-60-mph time to around 3.7 seconds.
Design
The XM is an imposing SUV with slab sides and brutish lines. BMW went over the top with the grille, giving the XM an almost comical front-end look, and the Label trim’s red accents add to the goofy look. The good news is that BMW offers a range of interesting, eye-catching color options and wheel choices.
Powertrain
BMW equips the 3035 XM with a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 and an electric motor, making a combined 644 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. The Label model uses the same powertrain with output boosted to 738 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. All XMs come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive (AWD). The base engine enables a 4.1-second zero-to-60-mph time, while the Label can do the run in 3.7 seconds.

Interior
The 2025 XM comes standard with Merino leather upholstery, but BMW offers a range of upgrades-for more money. Other standard features include heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, memory settings, a heated steering wheel, soft-close doors, and more. While it’s a relatively large SUV, the XM only seats five people across two rows of seating, and its cargo space measurements are behind many of its closest rivals in the class.
Technology
BMW equips the 2025 XM with a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Other standard features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless charging, SiriusXM radio, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, gesture controls, Bluetooth, four-zone automatic climate controls, and more. The XM is available with an upgraded Bowers and Wilkins stereo. BMW’s infotainment system is visually appealing, and it looks great on the high-resolution displays. It’s also packed with features and offers a mostly intuitive interface. The downside is that there are so many features and options that the system can feel overwhelming at times, and it takes some time to learn.
Safety
The 2025 BMW XM hasn’t been crash-tested by either major safety agency yet, but it comes equipped with a long list of standard equipment. Features include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, a rearview camera, parking assistance, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, a highway driving-assistance system, pedestrian detection, traffic-jam assist, and more.

Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, the 2025 BMW XM starts at $161,425, which includes a $250 charger credit and a $1,175 destination fee. The XM Label starts at $187,625.
