Volkswagen offers the 2009 Beetle S PZEV Convertible in states such as California, which have green emissions standards in place. The Beetle S PZEV Convertible's low-emissions, 2.5-liter, five-cylinder PZEV (Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle) engine produces 150 hp and 170 lb-ft torque, and connects to a six-speed automatic transmission with the Tiptronic manual shift feature and a Sport mode. The EPA estimates fuel economy numbers for the PZEV engine at 20/28 mpg. In addition to its low-emissions engine, the Beetle S PZEV Convertible comes equipped with a semi-automatic, power-operated soft convertible top with a glass rear window, which has a defrost function to ensure good visibility. Inside, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, air conditioning, cruise control, remote keyless entry, and a 10-speaker AM/FM audio system with a CD player, Sirius satellite radio, and MP3 input jack are among the standard features. In addition, an automatic locking feature locks the doors when the vehicle reaches 8 mph to ensure passenger safety.
Outside, standard exterior features include body-color bumpers, daytime running lights, heated washer nozzles, and heated exterior mirrors. For safety, an automatic rollover protection system deploys two steel beams, which reside under the back headrests, to help minimize passenger injuries in the event of an accident. Other standard safety- and performance-related features include an electronic stabilization program and antilock brakes with brake assist. In addition, an anti-slip regulation system helps prevent wheel slippage at all speeds. The front-wheel-drive Beetle S PZEV Convertible rides on 16-inch alloy wheels or optional 17-inch wheels.
