The Frontier PRO-4X trims are the off-road kings of this model line, starting with the 2009 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X King Cab (even if it is a rear-wheel-drive trim), which makes major leaps in many areas from the SE V6 trim. The PRO-4X King Cab does share an engine with the SE V6 – a 4-liter, 261-hp V6 capable of 281 lb-ft of torque – but this engine is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. The PRO-4X King Cab gets 15 city/20 highway mpg and has a maximum towing capacity of 6,500 pounds and a maximum payload of 1,289 pounds.
The PRO-4X King Cab’s off-road abilities are enhanced by Bilstein off-road performance shocks, two-wheel limited-slip, electronic locking rear differential, a Dana 44 rear axle, and skid plates for the oil pan and fuel tank. The PRO-4X King Cab’s exterior features 16-inch machine-finished aluminum alloy wheels with P265/75R16 BFGoodrich Rugged Trail outlined white-letter tires, foglights, power mirrors, utili-track bed channel system with four tie-down cleats, factory-applied spray-on bedliner and bed rail caps, and body-color grille, bumpers, mirrors, and door handles.
Like the exterior, the interior of the PRO-4X King Cab also makes significant additions or substitutions to the SE V6 trim – cruise control, power locks and windows (with driver express up and down), eight-way manually adjustable driver’s seat with adjustable lumbar support, unique PRO-4X cloth seat trim, in-cabin microfilter, keyless entry, first-aid kit, metallic gauge and vent accents, white face gauges, and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob with red stitching.
