2007 Scion tC Trims and Specs

The Scion tC hatchbacks is now available in two trim levels for 2007, with the base trim being the more upscale. While that sounds odd, the base tC is simply a more complete car, with less room left for personal customization. The Spec is left unfinished. The tC is a compact hatchback measuring 174 inches and weighing 2900 pounds. However, the interior is quite spacious. When the rear seats are folded, the tC offers 60 cubic feet of cargo space.

All tCs are powered by a 2.4 liter DOHC inline four cylinder engine, supported by Toyota's Variable Valve Timing + intelligence system. Toyota and Lexus have enjoyed the benefits of VVT-i for a decade, which include stronger engine output, higher fuel economy, and reduced emissions. The engine is paired with a five speed manual transmission, producing an EPA estimate of 23/30 mpg. The tC is supplied with 161 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque.

Serving as the high-end tC trim, the base finish includes cruise control, a power moon roof, one-touch power windows, 17-inch alloy wheels, a CD sound system with a portable device input jack, air conditioning, keyless entry, and folding/reclining rear seats. Side impact airbags are the only factory-installed option. Everything else happens at the dealership.

The Scion tC Spec is all new for 2007. The Spec is a simplified version of the well-equipped tC Base model, which Scion presents as the ideal template for custom finishing. Scion puts considerable emphasis on the potential for customization, and almost every optional feature is dealer installed. In other words, people can build their own Scions, and the Spec is a foundation.

The Spec comes equipped with an XM-ready Pioneer CD sound system, air conditioning, keyless entry, folding and reclining rear seats, and full power accessories. The options list is also long, and all of the items are available individually. Buyers can add a subwoofer, a CD changer, satellite radio, and i-Pod compatibility for the car's in-dash stereo.

Every Scion tC houses a 2.4 liter DOHC inline four, enhanced by Toyota's Variable Valve Timing + intelligence technology. In the company's effort to appeal to younger buyers, the Toyota subsidiary focuses on the potential for personalization. The Spec trim is intended as a starting point.

This top shelf tC comes equipped with keyless entry, folding/reclining rear seats, cruise control, a power moon roof, one-touch power windows, 17-inch alloy wheels, a CD sound system with a portable device input jack, and air conditioning. All options are dealer installed, except for the side airbag safety package. The i-Pod interface connection, which allows for i-Pod control through the the car's stereo, is expected to be a popular add-on.

At just 2900 pounds, the tC is able to speed from o to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds and through the quarter mile in just under sixteen. The engine is paired with a four speed electronically controlled automatic transmission on this model, which produces the best fuel economy (23/31 mpg).
