Write a reviewScion will start 2007 with only the tC hatchback in production, with updated versions of the xA and xB to follow soon after. The tC was added to the new Scion lineup in 2005, as a more performance-oriented addition to the unique x models. For 2007, Scion has added a new trim level for the tC, actually slated below what is considered the base. This new Spec trim is intended for front-end customization, offering buyers a clean slate to start building upon. The base tC includes cruise control, a power moon roof, one-touch power windows, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a CD sound system with a portable device input jack. Most Scion options are dealer-installed individual add-ons, allowing for a high level of flexibility and minimal headaches associated with choosing between option packages. Popular additions include a CD changer, a subwoofer, and an interface that allows drivers to manage their i-Pods (specifically) through the car's audio controls. For a compact coupe, the Scion tC has a considerably potent power plant. A larger 2.4 liter DOHC inline four has been added, supplying the 2900 pound hatchback with 161 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The engine is enhanced by Toyota's Variable Vale Timing + intelligence technology, and it can be mated to either a four speed automatic or five speed manual transmission. The automatic tC has an EPA estimate of 23/31 mpg, and the manual drops to 23/30.

Great handling & pick-up. Great looks and perfect price for a first time buyer. Extremely reliable car (it's a Toyota .. what else can you expect!) Fuel economy in the mid to upper 20s depending on how you drive. I'd give it 4 stars overall. Feb 25, 2013

very reliable, very affordable (27/31mpgs), and very fun. The Spec is a model
that is like a new canvas type Scion: It is specifically made to be modified. TRD
equipment is abundant, and depending upon my financial situation I could have
this car fully modified before it's paid for. I would recommend this car to anyone

Great car for the price! Paid 19,500 for it brand new. Very fast little car with a 2.4
4 cylinder engine with 161HP stock. Get the body kit, spoiler, fog lights, interior
lighting kit, sport shifting kit, and 10" built in subwoofer. Installed a Injen Cold Air

Performance - Very torquey 4 cylinder with plenty of get up and go. Tops out
at 127-128mph. Plenty of room to improve the engine (supports 300HP with no
internal work). I have cornered this car very aggressively and it has yet to give
out. Suspension is comfortable and sporty. 4-wheel disk brakes are very good
and stop on a dime.
Build Quality - 60K miles and nothing has needed replaced. Inside materials are
lexus quality and nothing has come undone as of yet. The extra sound damping
material helps and makes the car's 160W pioneer stereo sound great.
Appearance - Have gotten nothing but praise for the look of the car and is very
fun to drive out in public.
Cost of Ownership - I get high 20's, low 30's routinely driving to school each
day. 14.5 gallon tank lasts me a week, which is great considering how much I
drive and how small the tank is. As said before I have not done any maintenance on the car.
Fun Factor - It's a blast to drive and wants to be pushed harder. Very fun to
turn corners at high speeds and still have good control over the car. Overall a
very fun car with all the options you could as for stock and then some. Has
great modding potential, as that was the main focus of the Scion line, and it
shows.

Performance - Above average for cars in its class; could be faster with the addition of aftermarket upgrades. Overall performance is not bad at all considering price, engine size, and fuel economy.
Build Quality - Some rattling, especially when traveling over rough surfaces, but this is easily compensated for by turning up the excellent sound system. 2 years old, over 30k miles, and no mechanical problems yet.
Appearance - Love the exterior styling; recommend adding a spoiler to complete the look. Interior styling is decent overall; nothing spectacular, but no complaints.
Cost of Ownership - Gas mileage is fairly decent, close to 30 MPG with mostly highway driving. City driving takes a toll, especially if you're heavy on the accelerator pedal like I am, but still in the low- to mid-20 MPG range. Maintenance costs are predictably high when serviced at a dealership, but so far it hasn't needed anything aside from regularly scheduled maintenance. Go easy on the tires, they're not cheap to replace.
Fun Factor - Definitely fun to drive, especially with dealership-installed TRD suspension upgrades. Peppy and tight on turns (with the upgrades), the upscale tires have pretty nice grip in most weather, not so much in snow and ice. Not fun to drive in the winter in snowy regions, unless you enjoy fear and white-knuckled driving. Not impossible either, the car is capable of winter driving, but snow tires couldn't hurt.Oct 06, 2009

Car has nice styling and is well built. Performance could be better, but I am sure it would be great if I had the TRD Supercharger. The car sounds good because I have the TRD Exhaust added on. I bought this car for two reasons: my old one died and I married into a Toyota family. I used to have a 1999 Plymouth Breeze and the transmission died, so I had to get a new car. My father-in-law works for Toyota so I'm kind of sold on the product. I get discounts for life.
Anyway, if you like speed and handling get the Scion Tc. It's got pep, handles well, and can corner at high speed. I believe in driving a vehicle to its limits so that you know what it's capable of. The interior is a little tight, but I'm 6'4". You sacrifice a little space for performance and visual appeal.
On average I get 25 mpg, which is better than my old car. My old car got almost 20 mpg and it's the same size engine (2.4L). The car has 4 disc brakes so that you can brake in a hurry. The Tc is very responsive in tight situations and VERY fun to drive.
There is one drawback to the space if you have kids. Getting a car seat out of the back is a little difficult. My car seat is on the rear passenger seat, but I have to go in the driver's side to get my kid out. The angle is too weird to get my kid out from the passenger side. I'm going to tough it out until the Tacoma becomes a hybrid in 2010 (according to my father-in-law).
If kids aren't an issue, DEFINITELY buy this car. It's fast, looks great (especially with fog lights), and very fun to drive. The standard rims are a plus too. Nov 27, 2008

The Scion tC has great acceleration, the braking distance is short with all wheel discs, and it handles wonderfully at high speeds. The hatch rattles a bit, but nothing extreme. The exterior and interior of this car is second to none. It gets around 30 miles per gallon when you can keep your foot out of it, but where is the fun in that?! It has very low maintenance costs. I have 17k miles on mine and all I have done to her is gas and oil changes. The car is very fun to drive if you get the manual option. Oct 08, 2008

This car is one of the most amazing vehicles that ive owned. Has a very smooth right similar to Lexus. Even though both Lexus and scion are both made by one of the greatist car manufactures. I always wanted a scion xb but ended up with a tc it was a good price and what i was looking for and I love my car, i got it in may and its everything i expected and more, its stylish , has speed, the color is great i have a flint mica which is like dark grey with sparkles in the paint, beautiful when washed. double sunroofs which i love gas mileage is pretty good, handling is great around corners and in weather. brakes are amazing. Hasnt needed anything , I got this car when it had 51,000 and i have not had problems with it yet, its fun to drive and worth the money. Its a great car and its under $18,000. The car has tight handling (macPherson struts), responsive engine, smooth clutch, and a sleek sporty interior. Great looking car too. Definetely worth the msrp. Havent had any issues at all. I would love if it had a stronger motor though, only 160 hp, and the $3,000 supercharger that puts on about 20 hp doesnt seem worth it.Jul 27, 2008

I absolutely love this car! It's affordable, sporty, and Toyota made reliable. I bought this car brand new last year. The pricing is factory set which means that you won't be ripped off by some sketchy salesman. It's easy to personalize your Scion by adding on a spoiler, a car alarm, Lojack, Proguard coating, etc. The multi-colored display light, reclining back seats, moon roof, and Ipod compatibility all add a funky, fresh feeling to the car.Jul 15, 2008

Engine issues water coming from where my spark plugs are.
I had a leak in my coolant coming from water pump and a bad thermostat. My car was overheating frequently. So after I fixed what I thought could be the problem I got the engine stop over heating, but once I turned the car off and tried to restart it a few minutes later it would not start. The car was turning over but just not starting. So, I had a friend come look at it with me and we tried a lot of other things. Our one last measure we tried was we removed the coil packs and the sparks plugs, and started to turn the car over. This is when we saw that there was water shooting up from the engine every time the engine cranked over. What could be the issue?
