The Toyota RAV4 has been completely redesigned for this model year, now entering its third generation. For 2006, Toyota does away with the Corolla platform, adding a longer wheelbase and more interior room. A third row of seating is available, but it is best suited for children. The RAV4 series is the lowest priced of all Toyota SUVs.

The RAV4's base engine is a 2.4 liter inline four, which produces 166 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque, good for towing 1500 pounds. All 2.4L RAVs use a four speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. This front wheel drive model will attain fuel efficiency marks of 24/30 mpg.

This base model comes equipped with power windows and door locks, cruise control, air conditioning, privacy glass, a CD player, and 16 inch wheels. Options include daytime running lights, an in-dash CD changer, third row seating and 17 inch wheels.

The RAV competes with other small SUVs like the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Ford Escape.

The RAV4 has been fully redesigned for 2006, now built upon a new platform and much larger in size. The new RAV4 features a longer wheelbase and an additional two feet in length. The RAV4's new styling is now more consistent with the bold look of Toyota's other SUVs.

This model is powered by a 2.4 liter four cylinder engine, delivering 166 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque. The four cylinder engine is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, and fuel economy is estimated at 23/27 mpg.

Toyota has considerably lengthened the list of standard features for the third generation RAV, which now includes an MP3/CD audio system, full power accessories, cruise control, air conditioning, and privacy glass. Options on this model include daytime running lights, 17-inch wheels, and a compact third row of seats.

Toyota has also added its Star Safety System to each model, complete with Vehicle Stability Control + Traction Control, and ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Brake Assist. Extra security comes in the form of an electronically controlled full-time 4WD drive system. This system routes most of the power to the front wheels, but the distribution is redirected to the rear when a traction loss occurs.

This model is highlighted by a new more powerful 3.5 liter V-6, paired with a new transmission. The refined Dual VVT-i engine delivers 269 horsepower and 246 pound-feet of torque, and it is teamed with a more refined five speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. The addition of the V-6 bumps towing capacity from 1500 to 3500 pounds, and fuel economy is estimated at 22/29 mpg with two-wheel drive.

Toyota's small SUV begins its third generation in 2006, with a larger and more sophisticated RAV4. The RAV has grown two feet in length, and now has a much longer wheelbase. Interior volume is up by over 20%.

This model is powered by a 2.4 liter inline four, which produces 166 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque. The engine is a bit more powerful than last year, but it still uses a four speed automatic transmission. The new V-6 uses a five-speed. Fuel economy for this variation is estimated at 24/30 mpg.

The 4x4 RAVs are equipped with Toyota's electronically controlled On-Demand 4WD system. Most power is sent to the front wheels in normal driving conditions. However, when a potential slip is detected, power is redistributed to the rear for extra stability. A 4WD Lock feature allows the driver to fix a 50/ 50 front and rear power distribution.

The Sport has a more athletic appearance, created by the inclusion of a stylish roof rack, 18-inch wheels, color-keyed door handles, and fender flares. Faster-response steering and a sport-tuned suspension have also been added. All RAVs come equipped with full power accessories, tinted glass, cruise control, and an MP3 CD compatible six speaker sound system.

Toyota's small SUV has been fully overhauled for 2006, with a new platform and new exterior styling. Toyota has stripped away the previous RAV's toy-like appearance, in favor of a look similar to the Highlander.

The newly available engine option is a 3.5 liter V-6, enhanced by Toyota's Dual Variable Valve Timing + intelligence technology. The V-6 produces 269 horsepower and 246 pound-feet of torque, and is paired with an electronically controlled five speed automatic transmission. Even with the V-6 and the 4x4 drive train, this RAV earns an EPA rating of 21/28 mpg.

Even the base trim can be equipped with a larger engine and Toyota's electronically controlled 4WD-i system. Standard features on all RAV4s include full power accessories, cruise control, factory-tinted windows, an MP3 CD compatible audio system, and air conditioning. The V-6 models automatically receive 17-inch wheels. A special towing package is also available, bringing capacity up to 3500 pounds.

The RAV4 has been redesigned for the 2006 model year, now with a larger build platform and a more mature-looking presentation. Now in its third generation, the RAV is also available with same V-6 found in the flagship Avalon sedan.

This 3.5 liter V-6 offers a very substantial power boost over the inline four option. Horsepower jumps by 103 to 269, and torque is increased to 246 pound-feet. This Avalon engine uses Toyota's Dual Variable Valve Timing + intelligence system, which produces more power, lowers emissions, and improves fuel efficiency. A five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission is mated to all V-6 engines.

The RAV4 Sport receives all the base features, including air conditioning, a CD audio system, cruise control, tinted glass, telescoping wheel, and power accessories. The Sport trim adds 18 inch wheels, fender flares, a roof rack, color-keyed door handles, a stiffer suspension and more responsive steering system.

Toyota has completely redesigned this small crossover SUV for 2006. The RAV is no longer built atop the Corolla platform, and a new foundation allows for a larger frame and longer wheel base. The RAV4 is now spacious enough for a third row of seating, but these are best for smaller passengers.

The Limited is the top level trim. Features for the Limited include dual zone climate control, 17-inch wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, an in-dash CD changer, power folding mirrors, and a power driver's seat. All RAV4s get Toyota's Star Safety System, complete with Vehicle Stability Control + Traction Control, and ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Brake Assist.

The RAV's base engine 2.4 liter DOHC inline four, supplying 166 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque, which is a bit more power than last year. All four cylinder engines are mated to a four speed automatic transmission.

The considerably high 23/27 mpg fuel economy is due to Toyota's unique 4WD system. Power is sent to the front wheels in normal driving conditions, and only redistributes to the rear wheels when a loss of traction.

The Limited trim package adds 17-inch wheels, a power driver's seat, an in-dash CD changer, power-fold outside mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and dual-zone climate control, to an already generous list of RAV standard features. A navigation system, JBL audio upgrade, leather seating, a moon roof, and a rear seat DVD entertainment system are all optional.

When the RAV4 was first introduced in 1994, many Toyota enthusiasts might have had a difficult time imagining such a powerful and capable version of this small SUV. That day has now come. In 2006, the RAV4 entered its third generation with a fuller body and a new potent power plant option. Toyota's new 4WD system provides some extra security in all driving conditions.

A new 3.5 liter V-6 now provides the small SUV with 269 horsepower and 246 pound-feet of torque. The V-6 is the same found in the Avalon sedan, and it is equipped with Toyota's newer Dual Variable Valve Timing + intelligence technology. Despite the V-6 and 4x4 drive train, the new VVT system still gives this RAV an EPA estimate of 21/28 mpg. Adding the V-6 increases the RAV's horsepower by 103, and the towing capacity jumps a ton: from 1500 to 3500 pounds.

The Sport models are differentiated by fender flares, 18-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension and a more responsive steering system. Standard features include power windows and door locks, air conditioning, a roof rack, privacy glass, a six speaker CD sound system, and cruise control. A moon roof and a premium sound system are optional.

Toyota has overhauled the RAV4 for 2006, creating a larger and more refined small SUV. A new platform allows for a longer wheelbase and a larger frame, increasing interior room by over 20%.

A new 3.5 liter V-6 is borrowed from the Avalon, and further enhanced by Toyota's Dual Variable Valve Timing + intelligence technology. This engine generates 269 horsepower and 245 pound-feet of torque, and is mated to a new five-speed automatic transmission. The 4WD system sends the power to the front wheels in normal driving conditions, and only redistributes to the rear wheels when a slip is detected. A 50/50 distribution lock can be enabled, which is ideal for inclement driving conditions.

This is the top-of-the-line RAV4: equipped with 4WD, the new V-6, and the Limited trim.

The Limited adds additional items like dual-zone climate control, 17-inch wheels, a power driver's seat, an in-dash CD changer, power-folding outside mirrors, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Every RAV4 is equipped with an MP3-ready audio system, air conditioning, privacy glass, a tilting and telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, and full power accessories.
