The rally car-inspired 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STi comes in sedan form only, and features a brand new turbocharged 2.5-liter, DOHC flat-4 engine that hits 300-hp with its 6-speed manual transmission. This is a car for driving enthusiasts, and mechanically it comes outfitted with all-wheel drive, Brembo brakes, a sports suspension, and Driver Control Center Differential which lets you assign torque manually or automatically.
Inside, Alcantara two-tone blue and black seats, leather trim, cruise control, power windows, locks, and mirrors, automatic climate control, temperature display, tachometer (of course), and keyless entry offer many conveniences of more ordinary four-door sedans. ABS brakes, and dual front and side airbags are standard. The outside is truly sport-inspired, and new this year with a large rear spoiler, a new roof vane spoiler, a large hood scoop, slit-like xenon headlights, and new ground effects. The 2006 WRX STi can be had with either 17-inch gold or silver wheels. Fog lights, a universal remote, and alloy trim are extras.
Owners love the performance and handling, but don't like the tendency towards a noisy and rough ride, or the high insurance costs.
